Laboratory Manager, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine – Georgetown University Medical Center
Job Overview
The Lab Manager – a member of the DeMarco Laboratory in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine – supports the conduct NIH-funded studies exploring language and cognition in the brain, its breakdown after damage, and its recovery.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Administering standardized and experimental tests to participants with aphasia or healthy individuals
Recruiting, screening and consenting new participants
Scoring research assessments
Participating in outreach activities
Contributing to meetings focused on participant issues, scoring, and participant case reports.
As assigned, developing novel testing and scoring protocols when necessary, and participating in opportunities to analyze data, present findings at conferences, and write manuscripts
As well, they are responsible for the day-to-day research operations of the lab, including managing IRB protocols, overseeing undergraduate research assistants, organizing lab meetings, and fulfilling other research administrative needs of the lab.

In the broader context of the DeMarco Lab, the Lab Manager - reporting to Dr. DeMarco - plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between individual research projects and the collective vision of our lab.

Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, or a related field - preference for a Master’s degree in Neuroscience
At least 3-5 years of practical experience in a neuroscience or related research laboratory setting - preference for a focus on aphasia research specifically or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Proficiency in standard laboratory equipment operation and maintenance, understanding of research protocol adherence, and familiarity with basic data management software
Excellent spoken and written communication skills
Preferred qualifications
Experience relevant to lab safety, equipment operation, or specialized research techniques
Advanced skills in neuroimaging techniques, data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python), and laboratory database management
Certifications in advanced lab techniques, lab safety training, or other relevant areas that demonstrate a deeper expertise
