Vincennes University is seeking applicants for a Mechanic - Maintenance Associate. This is a full-time, support staff position located at the VU Main Campus site. This position is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of all University owned vehicles. The Mechanic Maintenance Associate is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all landscape/lawn care equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and repair of gasoline and diesel engines, small engines, 2 and 4 cycle, all types of passenger and work vehicles, loaders, lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, sweepers, etc equipment.Able to do all phases of automotive and bus repair (breaks, axle repair, engines, fuel systems, cooling, A/C and electrical) etc. Minor transmission repair, welding and cutting, fabrication.Tractor and mower repairs (hydraulics, U-joints repairs, belts, blade, oil changes, minor welding repairs etc.)Preventive maintenance on motor pool fleet, Physical Plant, and all University owned vehicles on the main campus and equipment.Will operate and repair snow removal and assist with snow removal as needed.Will operate and repair lawn maintenance equipment and assist with all phases of grounds duties as needed.Other duties within the Physical Plant as assigned.Required Skills and Preferred Qualifications:
Communications - Must have excellent verbal communication skillsTwo years documented experience in grounds equipment and automotive/truck repair in the institutional, industrial, or commercial environment. Other related experience will be considered.Possess a Class B CDL with passenger endorsement or be able to acquire one within 90 days of hire.Provide instructions to assistants and assist with training of new co-workers.Ability to work independently or as part of a crew.Understand and follow all safety procedures and use of safety equipment.Ability to organize and maintain work station/area.Maintain a positive working relations with co-workers, faculty, and staff, students and the general public; will/can be required to work as a member of an assigned crew on large projects.Able to utilize diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot equipment problems and electronics.Available to work after hours when deemed necessary by the supervisor. Requires to work on snow removal crew and on a weekend rotation with other members of the Grounds Dept.Regular attendance and punctuality is required for this position; actual schedule contingent upon the needs of the department and Vincennes University.High School diploma or G.E.D,2 years documented experience in the mechanical field.Possess a valid drivers license and maintain a clean driving record.Physical Demands:
