　　The Work You Will Do:

　　This Law Enforcement Investigator II is located at the Department of Environmental Protection’s West Palm Beach District Office located in West Palm Beach, Florida. This position is with the Division of Law Enforcement’s Environmental Crimes Unit (ECU). This incumbent will be responsible for the independent completion of a range of assignments under limited supervision. The work requires applying criminal justice and law enforcement understanding to analyze problems of a specialized nature in a wide range of applications. The incumbent conducts criminal, intelligence, and other types of investigations that threaten the environment or the public health and safety, in support of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s mission. This position has been identified as emergency Mission Essential Personnel and may be required, on short notice, to perform duties and travel in support of emergency efforts.

　　This position assists other agencies, upon request, in response to natural or man-made disasters, civil disturbances, and other public safety matters. Assists local and state law enforcement agencies with routine backup, manhunts, active shooter events, and search and rescue operations. The incumbent is subject to call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

　　Your Specific Responsibilities:

　　The duties of this position require a constituted state law enforcement officer (pursuant to 379.3313, F.S.) certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, empowered to enforce all laws of the State with full powers of arrest. Responsibilities are to protect life, limb, and property on the waters of the State. Enforce state laws and regulations, federal rules and regulations, and environmental crimes. This position investigates alleged violations of resource laws, seizes evidence, makes arrests, and testifies in court. Provides general police protection for citizens and visitors who use the lands, state parks and waters of the State of Florida. This position assists other agencies, upon request, in controlling and securing areas during disasters, hurricanes, fires, etc. and is subject to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position requires independent judgment and the ability to apply technical law enforcement knowledge with limited supervision.

　　Conducts investigations of crimes, crimes scenes, and emergency responses for the purpose of gathering witness testimony and physical evidence to be used in prosecuting suspects and otherwise determining criminal causes that may be indicated. Investigations may include offenses such as criminal conspiracies, environmental crimes, homicides, marine theft, title fraud, natural resource violations and cultural artifact investigations, etc. as assigned. Assignments will include follow-up work on cases initiated by other Division officers and assigned by the Regional Office. Enforces federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations with an emphasis on environmental, resource protection and environmental crimes investigations. This will be accomplished by garnering intelligence, analyzing collected data, management of informants, and operating as a non-uniformed investigator, as necessary, patrolling state land, air, and waters to detect violations. This patrol may be done via highway and all-terrain vehicles, aircraft, watercraft and/or foot patrol. Enforcement actions will include the physical identification and apprehension of suspected violators and measures employed to gain voluntary compliance through public contact and education. Conducts thorough, concise investigations and prepares investigative reports regarding reported and viewed violations. Performs On-Call duties as assigned on a 24-hour basis.

　　The incumbent shall properly prepare and complete all forms and documents related to enforcement activities such as offense reports, supplemental reports detailing investigative events and processes, affidavits, charging documents, search warrants (and returns), intercept warrants, property receipts and releases and other paperwork that may be required by the Department, Division, State Attorney's Office, US Attorney's Office or any other entity having oversight of criminal or civil prosecution and present related court testimony. The incumbent will also prepare exhibits and reports for use in formal adjudication of cases in a court of competent jurisdiction, assist in the formulation and evaluation of investigative methods and procedures.

　　This position requires completion of an approved 64-hour General Instructor Techniques Course with current instructor certification and an approved 80-hour First Line Supervision Course to participate in the Field Training Agent (FTA) Program. The incumbent will follow the policy and procedures outlined in the FTA manual.

　　These duties require the incumbent to be subject to emergency calls on a 24-hour per day/seven days a week basis for the protection of life or property.

　　Required or Preferred Qualifications:

　　Current Law Enforcement Officer Certification for the State of Florida or another state in the U.S.

　　1 year of law enforcement experience

　　Preferred Qualification: At least 3 years of law enforcement experience. An associate degree or higher in criminal justice from an accredited university or college; or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above for a total of 3 years.

　　The duties of this position require a constituted state law enforcement officer (pursuant to s. 20.255 (10), F.S.) certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, with full power to investigate and arrest for any violation of the laws of this state.

　　This position also requires a Physical Assessment Test, Oral Board interview, a doctor's physical, and law enforcement background investigation.

　　The incumbent of this position, in accordance with sections 110.1127 and 435.04, Florida Statutes, and DEP Directive 422, Background Investigations, is required to successfully complete a background and fingerprint check.
