Description
The Department of General Services is seeking a HVAC Supervisor I for the Facility Maintenance Division to inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues with commercial HVAC systems and oversee contractors for repairs/replacement. The HVAC Supervisor I will report to the Supervising Operating Engineer with recommendations, pricing, and status updates pertaining to ongoing HVAC projects.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Oversees scheduling system repairs with contractors and ensuring jobs are completed in a professional and timely manner.
Works with Supervising Operating Engineer to coordinate work assignments of HVAC crew.
Verifies preventative maintenance and testing is scheduled and completed as planned. Troubleshoots and diagnoses HVAC system failures.
Assists with HVAC repairs and maintenance: o various commercial systems o cooling towers o chillers o boilers o pumps o motors
Updates Supervising Operating Engineering with recommendations to repair or replace; quote amounts; and status of ongoing HVAC projects performed by contractors.
Performs inspections and prepares reports.
Follows the City’s Procurement Policy/Guidelines when requesting quotes from vendors/contractors, submitting paperwork for Purchase Orders (PO), and using vendor contracts to have work completed.
Utilizes a work order management application (Facility Dude) to assign work, monitor work orders for repairs and planned maintenance, and track expenses.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Required:
Three years of experience as a Maintenance Technician or Supervisor.Preferred:
Five years of experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing commercial HVAC systems.
Technical courses on HVAC and Mechanical.
Additional Information & Requirements
Valid Driver's License required.
CFC Universal Certification preferred.
This position is designated as Essential and may be required to report to work during City closures due to inclement weather and other emergencies.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
Occasional overtime
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus.

Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
