We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Product Support and Logistics Division as a Manufacturing Project Engineer in Peoria, IL.

  The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

  As a Manufacturing Project Engineer for the Ground Engaging Tools group, you will be responsible for providing both remote and on-site assistance & leadership to Caterpillar's supply base in the execution of Advanced Product Quality Planning, the assurance of process control, collaboration in process improvement initiatives, and leadership of quality issue investigations & resolution.

  Responsibilities include working with suppliers, Caterpillar manufacturing facilities, and our Product Support & Procurement teams on a variety of tasks and processes including (but not limited to):

  Project management to drive timely completion of development activities

  Ensuring robust process controls are in place to prevent nonconformities

  Monitoring of key manufacturing processes and quality management system for improvement opportunities

  Assisting with APQP activities to ensure production readiness for New Product Introduction

  Driving APQP excellence within the GET manufacturing base through best practices, tools/templates, and direct collaboration & training.

  Providing product & process technical support during start-up activities

  Evaluating new manufacturers and process enhancements or expansions; validating process capability

  Leading investigation & resolution of product quality issues; conducting the review, approval and validation of 8D permanent corrective action plans

  Basic Qualifications:

  Basic understanding of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP)

  Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Uses solid root cause analysis to get to root issues and drives for multiple solution alternatives. Uses data and expert input to evaluate and select appropriate solutions to root causes. Helps to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution. Leverages resources worldwide to investigate & resolve issues; delegates tasks effectively and manages issues & projects with appropriate techniques. Effectively communicates status and documents progress in appropriate ways

  Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. Identifies project management tools and requirements within own function. Describes the key objectives, phases and deliverables of a current project. Explains the concepts of phase, activity, task, and deliverable. Gives examples of critical paths in projects.

  Manufacturing Best Practices and Standards: Knowledge of best practices and standards for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of the design, production, and distribution of manufacturing products; ability to create and implement best practices and standards for various manufacturing processes and activities. Works with team to establish APQP best practices and implements with supply base. Understands or experience with key manufacturing processes, technology and equipment for GET components (Steel castings, forgings and fabrication). Identifies and implements improvements in manufacturing processes based on knowledge of industry new technology and best practices.

  Change Control - MFG: Knowledge of the processes and procedures by which a change is identified, evaluated, approved, monitored and documented; ability to manage changes in the production environment and processes effectively. Explains the basic purpose of change control and consequences of lack of control. Identifies common changes to manufacturing equipment, technologies and systems. Understands the process for taking engineering changes to our manufacturing base. Understands the process for taking manufacturing change requests to engineering.

  Top Candidates will also have:

  Bachelor's degree, preferably in a STEM field

  Engineering or manufacturing background plus familiarity with manufacturing processes used to produce components and assemblies for Caterpillar products, particularly steel castings, forgings, and fabricated steel products

  Knowledge of shop operations, particularly machining, finishing, inspection, paint, packaging

  Interpersonal communication, analytical, leadership and project management skills to develop cooperative working relationships with others both inside and outside of Caterpillar

  Problem solving skills; capable of using and demonstrating statistical and problem-solving tools; experience with 8D methodology and/or 6 Sigma experience particularly desirable

  Experience/familiarity with steel casting processes and tooling design

  Experience/familiarity with machining of steel components

  Experience/familiarity with 3D scanning technology & processes for dimensional analysis

  Experience/familiarity with Non-destructive Testing (NDT) equipment & processes, particularly mag particle inspection (MPI) and ultrasonic inspection (UT).

  Steel metallurgy knowledge & experience

  Knowledge/understanding of Caterpillar print reading, GD&T
