The Global Integrated Engineering (GIE) Facility Engineer is responsible for developing the vision and strategy for BD facilities globally and to provide leadership and guidance to the GIE and facility engineering teams in the evaluation, scoping, and implementation of specific facility projects from concept through production startup and validation are essential parts of the job. Working with and engaging procurement, the Global Real Estate and Construction (GRC), and site facility managers and technical resources are key to the project success.
This position will work closely with business unit counterparts, in addition to peers in the Manufacturing/Operations, Supply Chain, EH&S, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, and commercial organizations. They will also effectively work with the global organization in developing and executing cost and capital plans, ensuring alignment between the function, region, and business. leading the development of standardized User Requirements Specifications (URS) to ensure that projects are properly scoped, options are rigorously reviewed to ensure the solution meets the project technical requirements, is cost effective, and complies with safety and EH&S requirements. Provide input into and drive implementation of critical facility initiatives to include building management systems (BMS) and sustainability and that sites maintain compliance with all regulations.
This role will also be responsible for developing strategies to improve the overall utility equipment reliability and safety of associates while improving operational processes across BD manufacturing sites. This person will also facilitate communication between the GIE teams and the sites to ensure best practices are shared and facility issues are resolved and not repeated.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversee the team’s leading the sites in the implementation of facility projects and in capability building expertise in Facility systems and equipment in use and investment projects to improve the life cycle of site assets, minimizing equipment breakdowns, and improving reliability. Oversee the work with local facility managers or engineers on installation, validation and correct maintenance plans of all facility and utility systems such as air compressors, steam boilers, electrical service, WFI water, potable water, compressed gases, vacuum, etc. to hit project costs and timelines. Ensures to tie to the BMS strategy.
Ensure best practices are deployed in Facilities Project Planning and Execution – Working with site facilities managers, prepares and implements project or improvement plans for areas of responsibility including but not limited to: efficiency improvements, cost reduction or quality improvement programs, new product support and other process improvements. The plan is to include the proposed technical approach, estimated implementation costs, estimated resource needs, and a time schedule (Gantt chart).
Oversee a forum for providing input on new facility and equipment designs taking into consideration current equipment performance, designing from the maintainability standpoint, with feedback from production sites on: ease of maintenance, performance, sustainability, and safety. Provide oversite and support facility design reviews for new construction or facility renovations at all BD sites globally. Utilize necessary professional engineering firms to ensure facility renovations and improvements are carried out to all codes and regulations.
Work with local facility managers and corporate GRC regional reps to build relationships and contacts at all locations. Build the capabilities of facility managers across all BD sites.
Responsible for developing and providing training based on the site asset criticality evaluation. Oversees the development and enforces the facility maintenance strategy. Develop a process that will enable sites to deploy the appropriate tools and processes for criticality assessment, risk base analysis, maintenance plan development, diagnosis, and root cause analysis. Ensures that solid and complete Statements of Work (SOW) to define facility processes and practices including preventative maintenance plans and schedules for the equipment and facility processes. This includes internal work done by BD personnel and work done by outsourced contractors.
Monitor contractor workmanship progress and compliance with insurance and safety requirements.
Assess risks of key systems and create plans to address gaps.
Compliance with local, state, and national environmental practices and laws.
Develops and enforces the site technical standards for utilities and site systems. Analyzes maintenance data to trigger improvement projects and improve the life cycle of site assets. Compliance with local, state, and national environmental practices and laws. Good understanding of Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP). Ensure all projects comply with known cGMP standards such as ISO, NOM, YY.
Good understanding of Clean Room design and operation, ISO standards, and validations.
Knowledge of sterilization practices including ETO, E-beam, Gamma, and Steam and facility requirements.
Accountability:
Create an awareness of up-to-date knowledge and awareness of improvement methodologies and new techniques in maintenance engineering and their relevance to the site operations, including safety requirements, recommendations to ensure continuous improvements in equipment performance and availability as well as integration of maintenance best practices for BD equipment reliability for asset utilization.
Facilitate the definition of site maintenance strategies, procedures, and methods, aligning with maintenance budget and assets criticality.
Validate the application of criteria for developing and accepting new or modified assets and ensures optimal availability, maintainability, and reliability of new equipment as well as assets documentation, including manuals, schemes and other related documents, maintenance plans.
Coach the Maintenance Team and other related roles to investigate all significant and repetitive failures to identify causes and initiate corrective actions as well as other reliability tools.
Establish standards for staff development, defining training and skill development.
Work with reliability engineers to ensure failure analysis results with optimization of the maintenance plans.
Conducts regular site audits and assist in establishing improvement plans.
Analysis and optimizes preventive and corrective maintenance processes considering constraints and needs of other functions.
Ensure that effective performance reviews are in place and that measurement and review drives continuous improvement projects.
Follow new technologies to develop appropriate solutions for the site, anticipate changes and optimize investment and running costs.
Ensures harmonization of processes, promotes, and enforces technical standards.
Benchmark engineering and Maintenance results against other BD sites and external references.
Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Broad business knowledge including but not limited to strategic planning, operational excellence, finance, talent development.
Electrical and mechanical blueprint reading, proficient in AutoCAD for site layout and design print reviews.
Hazardous waste/EPA knowledge.
In-depth knowledge of sustainability programs, initiatives, methodologies, and new technologies.
Advanced working knowledge of facilities, utilities, all sterilization modalities, and manufacturing processes.
Strong organization skills, manages competing priorities and keeps stakeholders well-informed.
Strong Networking ability to communicate effectively and share best practices globally.
Comfortable with ambiguity and can influence without authority.
Strong working knowledge of BMS systems.
Ability to translate complex technical needs/requirements into clear actions for execution.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Minimum Education: B.A. / B.S. Degree Engineering, Science, Industrial, Facilities or Construction management (Mechanical Engineering preferred) or equivalent facilities management experience.
Successful track record in Lean manufacturing, maintenance management a plus.
Minimum Experience: Ten (10) years of progressively responsible engineering and facility management experience. Proven leadership in project and capital management. Experience preferred in operations and/or in advanced manufacturing engineering and facilities management.
Other: Able to act in multicultural environment and worldwide matrix organizations. Frequent international travel up to 30%.
