  Job Description and Duties

  The CalSTRS Enterprise Risk and Financial System Support Division is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as an Enterprise Risk Management Specialist (Financial Accountant II) on the Enterprise Risk Management & Quality Assurance Team.

  Enterprise Risk Management promotes a risk aware culture and the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risk across the organization.

  The Enterprise Risk Management & Quality Assurance Unit coordinates enterprise risk management activities; risk management awareness training and supports the development, update and testing of branch policies, procedures, and other internal controls.

  Under the general supervision of the ERM Risk Manager, the Financial Accountant II acts as the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Specialist and performs technical and professional accounting and analytical activities related to the continuous development and maintenance of the ERM framework. The ERM Specialist collaborates with all CalSTRS business areas in the coordination, management, and enhancement of the ERM program. This includes providing communication to the Risk Champions and preparing monthly dashboards and reports for Division Directors and Branch Executives and facilitating the Risk Champion’s Network meetings. The incumbent contributes to the development of the annual Risk and Internal Controls Awareness training and delivers training as needed. The work performed by the ERM Specialist involves underlying assets and systems that are considered atypical and highly complex; with the risk of error being significant to the branch and organization.

  The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  Ability to effectively work with all levels of leadership across the organization.

  Knowledge and Experience with Enterprise Risk Management/ Compliance.

  Skills to perform technical and professional accounting and analytical activities.

  Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize complex and sensitive workload issues.

  Ability to prepare and present technical information in a format suitable for management/board reporting.

  Skills to communicate effectively with individuals and groups, both orally and in writing

  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

  Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

  This position may supervise staff in the future.

  Telework Information: We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento 2 days per week.

  Working Conditions

  All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.

  This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment with CalSTRS.

  Background Investigation

  Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted. The BI consists of a Personal History Statement and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.
