JOB SUMMARY

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administers breath alcohol tests to subjects arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and other criminal charges in Orange County. #oj
Minimum Requirements
At least 18 years of age.
Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Must be able to successfully complete the Basic Breath Test Operator Course approved by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission and be issued a Breath Test Operator permit by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Alcohol Testing Program within six (6) months of obtaining the position.
Must also successfully complete continuing education requirements to maintain valid permits.
Must be a Public Notary within six (6) months of obtaining the position.
Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.
Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
Ability to conduct evidentiary tests on individuals arrested for DUI to determine breath alcohol concentration in accordance with Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Implied Consent Program and the Florida Administrative Code Chapter 11D-8. Video/audio records subjects while the test is being administered.
Ability to properly maintain necessary equipment.
Ability to testifies in depositions, criminal court proceedings, and at Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) Bureau of Administrative Review suspension hearings.
Ability to participate in Sheriff’s Office community relations activities as directed.
Ability to maintain and collect evidence, digital recordings, records, ticket information, subpoenas, and other data with accuracy and completeness.
Ability to write alcohol influence reports and other documentation as needed.
Ability to perform computer data entry of Sheriff’s Office issued tickets.
Must be able to work in close contact with individuals arrested for DUI, who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Must possess superior integrity, honesty, and willingness to be challenged on a regular basis.
Must have the ability to learn, understand, express, apply, and demonstrate knowledge of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Implied Consent Program and the Florida Administrative Code Chapter 11D-8.
Must have the ability to learn to operate, maintain, and inspect necessary technical equipment (e.g., breath testing instrumentation and audio/visual aids).
Must have the ability to collect, measure, analyze, and place into evidence breath alcohol testing and urine specimen collections of individuals arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs in accordance with Chapter 11D-8 of the Florida Administrative Code; must have the ability to video record subjects while the test is being administered.
Must have basic computer skills to include word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Must have the ability to provide training and instruction pertaining to the various aspects of DUI testing and the effects of alcohol.
Must have the ability to testify in court, depositions, and at the Department of Highway and Motor Vehicles administrative hearings.
Must have the ability to take initiative and work under pressure with limited supervision.
Must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Ability to provide excellent customer service in person and over the phone.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle to feel. They occasionally are required to stand, walk, sit, reach with their hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance; talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to bodily fluids, fumes or airborne particles and occasionally exposed to violent and combative subjects. Potential exposure to blood and other bodily fluids may occur. Must follow the general biohazard safety precautions during the DUI process due to potential contamination of infectious materials from the subject during contact. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to work long hours, irregular and rotating schedules (i.e., day, evening, and midnight shift; weekdays and weekends), and be available for call-out for sworn testimony after little or no sleep. Must be on standby for testimony at DUI trials, criminal trials and court hearings Monday through Friday.
