Overview
The Distribution Inspector is to inspect and ensure that all constructionactivities are performed within a client-required project scope of work(SOW), specifications, procedures, codes, standards, and safetyrequirements. This position requires a thorough understanding of variousnatural gas distribution systems and their implications on thecustomer/community. The Distribution Inspector is expected to constantlycommunicate with stakeholders in a high-paced environment while contractorswork in restricted spaces and ROW areas within public and private property.Accurate and detailed communication is a must in this position and will beutilized daily for record-keeping and progress tracking.
Responsibilities
The Distribution Inspector works under the direction of the Lead Inspector,who will assign additional responsibilities to each inspector as needed. Theduties assigned to the Distribution Inspector will include, but are notlimited to, the following:Ensure all work activities are performed safely and professionally within thecompany's Health and Safety handbook.Document and submit daily reporting and forms of all construction activitiesdaily to the Distribution Management Team.Confirm the appropriate SDR rating of the polyethylene pipe being utilized forinstallation based on design drawings and compatibility with the existingpressure system.Maintain daily records to support all installation activities, constructionas-built, and complete paperwork.Inspect all materials before installation, including pipe defects, chattermarks, and gouges.Ensure all material installed is per project specifications.Ensure compliance with all project-specific environmental requirements,landowner stipulations, and construction requirements.Ensure compliance with all city, county, state, and other agency permitrequirements.Ensure all third-party substructures (foreign utilities) are locatedbefore machine digging or HDD operations, including mark outs with activedig numbers and potholing/test holing when necessary.Communicate effectively with outside agency onsite inspectors, contractorpersonnel, and client personnel working on various aspects of constructionprojects.Communicate and coordinate effectively with property owners and the generalpublic directly affected by project construction, including schedulingappointments when necessary.Communicate effectively with the project team during construction daily. Thelevel of communication may vary depending on the nature and size of theproject.Inform Distribution Management immediately of any safety accidents orconcerns, construction deviations, or any problems and anticipatedproblems - including line strikes, blowing gas, injuries on the job, etc.Proactively communicate daily scheduling changes to Distribution Management.Inspect the plastic fusion process onsite, including but not limited tocleaning, scraping, and fusing; inspect the final fusion bead foradherence to Client gas work methods.Ensure plastic fusion equipment is calibrated and in working order,including overseeing the temperature reading of the iron and the cool-downprocedures once fusion is completed.Inspect meter set assembly.Inspect customer relights.Inspect service transfers and abandonments.Oversee purging operati ns as per Client gas work methods.Ensure all components of customer services are installed per Client gas workmethods.
Qualifications
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma, 3-5 years experience in gas distribution,polyethylene pipe fusion, meter sets, mainline installation, knowledgeof underground locating, and HDD process.Familiar with all forms of plastic fusion, including butt fusion,mechanical and electrofusion, and various fittings, from pipe, tees, etc.Experienced in various distribution pressures (including all pressure levelsof low-pressure systems, medium/intermediate pressure systems, andhigh-pressure systems) and a firm understanding of when to utilize theappropriate gauge type.Recommended Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) through the American Welding
