Dowhas an exciting opportunity for a Data Science Specialist located inHouston, TXorMidland, MI. The role will align to Dow's Design Your Day approach and allows employees flexibility by choosing when to work remotely and when to attend on-site activities based on project work and role needs.
About you and this role
The Digital Operations Center (DOC) is a critical component in leading innovation and enabling Dow's Digital Strategy for Manufacturing. The center includes a blend of resources from Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, and Information Systems and collaborates closely with other key functions. The DOC team includes personnel with expertise in analytics, process control, process automation, sensors, robotics, and mobility to digitalize Dow’s operations. This multidisciplinary team coordinates with other functions such as R&D, Manufacturing, and IT to facilitate rapid prototyping of new capabilities to enhance the competitive position of Dow's manufacturing and site facilities.
Within the DOC, the Analytics & AI Team is focused on the exploration and evaluation of emerging technologies, providing technical expertise in the areas of analytics, data science, machine learning, generative AI, and more. As a part of this team, you will collaborate with relevant expertise centers within the company to drive projects that support the digitalization of Dow Manufacturing.
In this role, you will use expanded conceptual and practical knowledge in Analytics and Data Science to drive the design and execution of proof of concept projects that safely and effectively evaluate emerging digital technology solutions to create value for Dow manufacturing. As a Data Science Specialist for the Analytics & AI Platform within the Global Digital Operations Center organization, you will work at the intersection of chemical manufacturing and data science.
Responsibilities
Leads or supports Analytics projects for the optimization of plant production and operation globally
Identifies opportunities and leads projects to develop digital technology improvements for manufacturing that create value for business partners
Engages with teams to provide direction for external relationships (e.g., vendors, consortia, academic partnerships) for technology development
Ensures all solutions deployed are highly reliable, scalable, and adhere to all applicable internal requirements and external/government requirements
Uses your expertise and familiarity in data analytics, AI, or advanced mathematical modeling techniques to ensure developed and deployed solutions are both quality and cost competitive and have a focus on innovation and sustainability
Provides mentorship and coaching to peers on the topic of Analytics technology
Ability to travel up to 10% annually within the US
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, 5 years relevant experience, or relevant military experience at a U.S. E6 rank or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or higher
A minimum of 3 years relevant experience
A minimum requirement for this US-based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process
Preferred Skills
Degree discipline in computer science, IT, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or other related field
Self-motivated to learn quickly and deliver high-quality results with a strong focus on innovation
Strong analytical thinking and ability to take independent actions and influence events to achieve results
Knowledge of project management including stakeholder engagement, scope and budget management, project risks, and skill in influencing for positive outcomes
Ability to interact internally with key leadership across all businesses and functions
Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to thrive in a multi-cultural team
Ability to elevate the total team by proactively sharing knowledge and experience, leveraging collaboration tools
Rich working knowledge of data, BI & Analytics technologies (data warehouses, marts, big data, reporting and visualizations)
User interface (UI) development and/or BI dashboard development
Understanding of AI and ML techniques and methods including Generative AI and Computer Vision
Understanding of how to deploy models into production environments and maintain these efforts through the Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) lifecycle
Programming skills including but not limited to: Python, R, C#, and SQL
Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud services and Azure DevOps
Expertise within multiple work process disciplines, functions, and/or business units
