  Job Description

  The highly preferred work location for this in office/onsite position is Thousand Oaks, CA. A secondary in office/onsite work location of Billerica, MA may also be considered.

  Position Summary:

  This position requires the development, implementation and management of the global customs compliance functions across the corporation. The role demands exceptional communication and collaboration skills, and a strong import trade expertise. The Corporate Director, Customs Compliance will support the Chief Trade Compliance Counsel and the Legal Department in managing the customs and traffic/shipping functions throughout Teledyne, interacting with all of the various Teledyne segments, groups and business units. At times, the Director may also need to support the export compliance function.

  Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  Analyze and interpret legal and policy requirements for compliance as they relate to customs activities for Teledyne worldwide.

  Develop quality customs training material and provide functional training to personnel at various levels throughout the company.

  Manage or otherwise support trade compliance staff in the Traffic/Shipping & Customs teams, as well as other Teledyne employees with customs responsibilities.

  Develop and deploy corporate standardize policies, processes and best practices to ensure compliance with customs and other applicable government agency’s regulations worldwide, including HS classification, country of origin issues, use of preferential duty programs (e.g., free trade agreements, inward/outward processing relief, free trade zones, duty drawback), customs valuation, reconciliation, import and export declaration management, and recordkeeping requirements.

  Identify potential areas of customs compliance vulnerability and risk within the organization and work to appropriately evaluate, investigate and resolve or mitigate potential risk.

  Develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provide guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.

  Conduct import audits and assessments at various Teledyne worldwide sites and consult with the Chief Trade Compliance Counsel and Corporate Legal as needed to resolve any legal compliance issues.

  Assist with investigations and drafting of voluntary/prior disclosures to customs and other government agencies.

  Assist with Merger & Acquisition due diligence as it relates to customs compliance.

  Conduct in-person and remote facility assessments for compliance.

  Job Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree is preferred.

  U.S. Customs Broker License preferred.

  10+ years of hands-on experience and extensive knowledge of U.S. customs regulations initiatives are required, as well as a strong familiarity with the customs laws of other countries.

  Practical experience implementing import trade compliance programs across multiple companies is mandatory, export compliance experience a plus.

  In-depth knowledge of customs regulations and customs valuation, classification and special trade programs.

  Prior operations/people leadership experience required.

  Industry experience required, preferably in high technology sectors.

  Proven track record of progressively responsible interface and support with diverse groups of subject matter experts in a dynamic environment.

  Ability to influence across the company and to interact with persons at all levels.

  Able to organize, prioritize, and drive results.

  Ability to work independently and collaboratively to set and accomplish corporate objectives.

  High accuracy and attention to detail.

  Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing with excellent time management skills.

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  May need to work evening hours and some weekends.

  Able and willing to travel up to 25%, primarily domestic with some international travel.

  Must be a U.S. Person (A U.S. Person is a U.S. citizen or person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

  Salary Range:

  $174,900.00-$234,740.000

  The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
