We currently have an exciting position for a Computational Modeling Engineer to support our Nuclear Technologies and Materials (NTM) division in San Diego, CA. Under general supervision with limited review, this position is responsible for analyzing the thermal mechanical response of ceramic matrix composite materials subject to radiation and high temperatures. This work supports NTM’s programs that are developing next generation materials for space and terrestrial nuclear reactors and hypersonic vehicles.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides practical support solutions to technical engineering problems related to multiscale materials modeling in extreme environments.
Documents findings and communicates reports and technical presentations at engineering meetings, and participates in program reviews.
May be asked to lead/mentor less experienced professionals on a semi-routine basis.
Addresses technical issues utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work.
Assume technical and engineering responsibility for segments or key portions of contracts.
Provide technical communication within the Company management and may represent the Company as a technical contact to customers.
Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level.
Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Must possess general knowledge of materials science and the structure-property relationship in materials.
Must possess knowledge of one or more commonly used material response and deformation behavior modeling approaches such as phase field modeling or finite element method.
Experience in MATLAB is desirable.
Experience with composite materials is desirable.
Experience in use of computational approaches in aerospace or nuclear related applications is desirable
