  Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  The Department of Veterinary Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU), in Ames, Iowa, invites applications for a full-time, assistant or associate clinical-track or tenure-track faculty position in Clinical Pathology. The appointment rank will be determined by the candidates’ qualifications, documented experience, and interests.

  Position responsibilities include diagnostic service (professional practice), teaching, and scholarship (research/discovery) as defined in the Faculty Handbook https://www.provost.iastate.edu/policies/faculty-handbook. The candidate is expected to advance the discipline of clinical pathology through the creation and dissemination of new knowledge and participation in scholarship by providing expertise and contributions.

  For appointment in the clinical track, a minimum of 75% is required as diagnostic and teaching service, 5-10% scholarship/research would include publishing peer-reviewed collaborative case series and case reports and/or participating in collaborative research, and 5% institutional service . For appointment in the tenure-track, the assignments are approximately 30-40% diagnostic clinical pathology services, 35-40% teaching professional DVM and graduate student courses, 20-30% collaborative research/scholarship, and 5% institutional service. A record of peer-reviewed publications and productivity from collaborative or team lead expertise and/or original research will be expected. Actual percentages are somewhat flexible depending on the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. Related clinical pathology research areas include, but not are limited to; animal models of human disease, infectious diseases, oncology/carcinogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, parasitology, naturally-occurring animal diseases, and comparative pathology. Candidates at the Associate Professor level will have documented evidence of scholarship, teaching, and clinical service appropriate for the rank. The successful candidate will have a collegial, collaborative attitude and participate in all aspects of clinical pathology section responsibilities . The candidate will be highly self-motivated, innovative with excellent communication skills and a focus on continuous learning. Furthermore, the candidate will demonstrate professional maturity with a leadership style that contributes to a positive culture, and dedication to scholarly knowledge, student- and patient-centered professional interactions, and the highest standards of integrity and ethics.

  Required Minimum Qualifications:

  DVM or equivalent degree

  Successful completion of a Clinical Pathology residency training program through the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathologists (ECVCP) and eligibility to sit for 2024 Phase II Certifying Exam of the ACVP/ECVCP

  Experience in diagnostic clinical pathology and related laboratory methods, and clinical pathology teaching

  In addition to the requirements above, below are minimum qualifications at the following ranks:

  Clinical Assistant Professor: Eligibility to take ACVP Phase II Certifying Exam August 2024; discipline related MS or PhD or equivalent advanced degree; or equivalent peer-reviewed publication record.

  Clinical Associate Professor: Diplomate ACVP/ECVCP; minimum 5 years’ experience in clinical pathology; discipline related MS or PhD or equivalent advanced degree; or equivalent peer-reviewed publication record.

  Tenure-track Assistant Professor: E ligibility to take ACVP/ECVCP Phase II Certifying Exam August 2024, discipline related MS or PhD or equivalent advanced degree.

  Tenure-track Associate Professor: Diplomate ACVP/ECVCP; minimum 5 years’ experience in clinical pathology, record of scholarship and teaching and experience, experience with resident training; discipline related PhD or equivalent advanced degree.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Documented research experience (publications, grants, graduate student mentorship)

  Certification in Clinical Pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and/or European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathologists

  Department/Program & College Description:

  The Department of Veterinary Pathology currently has 5 ACVP board-certified anatomic pathologists (2 pending to be hired), 4 ACVP board-certified clinical pathologists, and 2 parasitology faculty (1 board-certified via ACVM). The department includes students pursuing MS and PhD degree programs in anatomic and clinical pathology, parasitology, and interdepartmental programs, residency training for board certification. A strong collaborative environment exists between the different colleges and departments at Iowa State University. The clinical pathology section provides diagnostic services for the Veterinary College Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC), the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, regional and national veterinarians, and animal health related research.

  The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center is a state-of-the-art facility that provides specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion and large animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states via 24-hour, high-quality care to animal patients.
