About The Role, Chief Privacy Officer
We are looking for an experienced and practical leader who can evolve Applied Materials’ next stage global privacy program. This leadership position will be responsible for the global strategy and implementation of key enterprise programs and policy focused on privacy and regulatory compliance in collaboration with our global compliance and information security teams. This includes leading continuous programming, privacy reviews, regulatory monitoring, and incident response to ensure Applied Materials maintains industry-leading practices in privacy and data protection. The role will work closely with the compliance organization along with the information security, internal audit, and human resources teams, and requires expertise in privacy law, cybersecurity, and data protection in order to manage complex issues around the globe. This position will require hands-on leadership, counseling business and legal teams on privacy implications for products and services, advising on compliance with global regulations, and participating as a leader in the Global Legal & Compliance organization sharing best practices, knowledge, and resources across the internal community.
What you'll do
Responsible for evolving privacy and data protection strategy, including developing and communicating policies and practices, performing risk assessments, monitoring ongoing compliance in coordination with other compliance and operational assessment functions, and collaborating with the Chief Information Security Officer to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Partner with business and engineering teams to implement privacy and data controls, and evangelize privacy best practices for customer, employee, partner, and vendor personal information.
Partner cross-functionally to implement privacy-forward processes for product and service development and commercialization.
Monitor and advise on potential business impact of proposed changes to U.S. and global privacy and data security laws and regulations.
Assess and respond to potential privacy and security risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Advise on compliance best practices across all aspects of global data protection laws, including employee data, business data, data retention, data security and data breaches.
Review collection, use, and transfers of data and draft privacy policies and disclosures.
Support company engagement with government, industry, and peer groups on privacy and data security issues.
Creatively build upon and drive enterprise and employee awareness around privacy and data security issues, including developing and delivering training.
Lead data incident response preparedness, including evolving and practicing the Company’s data incident response plan.
Maintain and evolve program metrics and KPIs
Who you are
J.D. from an accredited law school and 15+ years of relevant experience, with both in-house and top-tier law firm experience, with substantial focus on employee privacy and data legal and compliance issues.
Established track record for developing talent, cultivating team culture, managing people and projects, and leading within and across organizations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, impeccable integrity, good judgment, strong analytical skills, flexible, pragmatic, and a keen sense of humor.
Collaborative by nature and able to build strong partnerships.
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and ability to manage and prioritize a diverse and complex workload. Ability to influence beyond authority in a complex and matrixed organization.
Demonstrable ability to drive global, enterprise-wide policies and practices.
Demonstrated ability to support and collaborate with cross-functional executives (C-Suite, CISO, etc.)
CIPP, CIPP-E strongly preferred, technical/systems background a plus.

U.S. Salary Range:
$216,000.00 - $297,000.00
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
