General Summary

Responsible to perform laboratory testing assigned to the department and assist in maintaining stock of general use consumable items, overseeing equipment calibration and general maintenance following established SOPs, general laboratory maintenance and cleaning, as well as helping coordinate laboratory safety programs. Will also assist with technology transfer and performance of test method suitability studies. Maintain excellent communication with the Department and other Laboratory Services personnel.

Provide world class customer service by capturing and being responsive to the voice of the customer (internal or external, including donors for select positions) through multiple feedback channels in order to resolve issues and drive satisfaction in accordance with the BBG customer engagement, feedback, and complaint processes.

It is essential that the incumbent have a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years old with a good driving record to meet organization driving standards.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Tasks

Competently perform all assigned departmental duties. Will perform Pre‐Analytical tasks [receipt, qualification, and preparation of samples for testing] and QC testing on patients, donors, and/or biologic products. May perform test method suitability studies and assist with tech transfer from cell therapy clients.

Evaluate test results in an accurate and timely manner, and recognize and report unusual test results.

Operate equipment utilizing established protocols and within quality control limits.

Recognize equipment malfunctions and/or technical problems and take appropriate steps to resolve. Maintain strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Prepare and maintain reports/records and perform computer data entry. Maintain departmental supplies within established inventory levels.

Assist in other laboratory areas as directed.

Education

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work relative to the

field of assignment. The required major is chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Certification from ASCP or equivalent preferred

Experience

Requires one or more year(s) of laboratory experience.

Requires a strong background in cGMP principles and Quality Management Systems.

Prefer working experience with Residual Moisture testing, Endotoxin, and ELISAs.

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge

Must have a working knowledge of laboratory sciences, techniques and processes.

Must maintain knowledge of and perform according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.

Skills

Must be capable of correctly interpreting process outcomes and perform high level troubleshooting.

Must have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Must be capable of operating motor vehicles in all types of weather conditions.

Must maintain competency in laboratory skills for liquid and material handling.

Must have strong computer skills.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Abilities

Must be able to keep information confidential.

Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment and perform multiple requests simultaneously while maintaining quality and accuracy.

Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.

Must be professional, detail oriented, self-motivated, innovative, creative, assertive, organized, communicative, and have the ability to work independently.

Working Environment

Works in a well-lighted air conditioned and heated laboratory/department. May be exposed to electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards and other conditions common to a laboratory environment. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to a clinical laboratory environment. May have bodily exposure to refrigerator/freezer temperature, especially hands and face. Will work extended hours during peak periods. May be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend.

Occupational Exposure Assignment - Category I

Physical Requirements

Will sit, stand, walk, and bend during working hours.

Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Required to carry up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing corrected to a normal range.
