Job Description
The ideal candidate for this position is an entry level developer. Previous professional experience is not required.
What you will be doing:
You will play a key role on a collaborative project team, be responsible for the design and production of mission critical, enterprise-scale business systems.
You will translate requirements into system design specifications and the implementation of systems throughout the entire software development life cycle.
You will develop a thorough understanding of the logistics business and risk management domains.
You will develop awareness of evolving technologies in use by other teams at Expeditors and in the technology industry. Some example projects and activities include:
Developing new features and maintaining existing features in a variety of applications
Automating build and deployment processes
Monitoring and troubleshooting applications and services
Contributing to, authoring, improving, and exercising our runbooks and system documentations
Modernizing legacy applications and developing cloud-deployed solutions.
This position will sit in the Greater Seattle, WA area, in one of the following locations:
Downtown Seattle
Federal Way
Lynwood
Bellevue (Factoria)
Provided the location has availability, candidates will be assigned to their preferred location. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency with Java
Critical thinking abilities
Interest in software development
Basic understanding of web applications and enterprise systems
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience or functional knowledge of the following points will significantly increase the probability of success of a candidate, but it is not required:
Enterprise Unix-like operating systems, including familiarity with the command line – putty, ssh, powershell, or bash
Backend code (Java/Spring) to write the business logic, database queries, and APIs as well as building the front-end client (Angular/Bootstrap/HTML, CSS) that uses those APIs
Relational databases, SQL, and ORMs used in enterprise applications
Cloud native technologies
Event-driven architecture
Transportation and logistics or supply-chain solutions
Trade and customs compliance
Risk-management (insurance)
Developer IDE (Eclipse, IntelliJ or other)
Java plug-ins (specially Maven or Nexus)
Backend code (Java/Spring) to write the business logic, database queries, and APIs
Front end code (Angular/Bootstrap/HTML, CSS) to use services and APIs
RxJs/NgRx/Redux
Agile software development methodologies
Java test framework (J unit)
Gitlab CI/CD pipelines, automation, and monitoring
Familiarity with Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning, Record Linkage or similar knowledge areas

Expected base salary: $85,000 to $120,000
May be eligible for bonus following first year of continuous employment in position
