This is a part-time position with some evenings and weekends on rotation, average of approximately 4-10 hours per week. Assists in the Children's Library as a readers' advisor, monitors the department, conducts tours as needed, assists in programming as assigned, and helps with general departmental needs.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:1. Performs telephone and walk-in reference for Youth Services, primarily assisting children and families, and also assisting teens as required.2. May assist supervisor in creating, planning, developing, and promoting programming for youth.3. May assist with production of weekly story times and present other children's programs.4. May assist with displays in the Children's Library.5. May shelve or shelf-read books.6. May assist in creating informational materials for children and parents.7. Communicates library policies and procedures.8. Keeps informed of children's literature.9. Assists individuals with using the online library catalog and indexes.10. Conducts tours of the Children's Library.11. Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Four-year college degree preferred. Two years of satisfactory work experience with children or teens (equivalent life experiences).
