Job Description

SUPERVISES: There are no direct reports with this position.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under close supervision, the Woodworker constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes. Employees in this job class study specifications, fasten and install parts as well as repair defective containers by replacing damaged parts. Work involves using a variety of tools, with attention to knowing and using safe work practices.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

*Measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns and templates.

*Inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers.

*Build crates around objects, using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer.

Fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds.

*Applies preservative to prolong wood life.

*Packs, seals, bands, and applies markings to crates and containers

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· 0 to 1 year of work experience, preferably in construction, carpentry or maintenance;

· Ability to follow instructions on labels for proper and safe use of tools and equipment;

· Fluency in the use of ruler, pencil, hand and power tools, including saws, as well as hammer, nailing machine, or power stapler;

· Basic mathematical ability, ability to read and use measurements;

· Ability to work safely;

· Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities;

· Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and common sense skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* * Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

• Maneuvering to and around equipment

• Standing and walking

• Bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching

• Lifting of boxes or equipment up to 50 pounds

• Climbing ladders or step stools

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
