This position participates in the repair and maintenance of water system infrastructure.
Job Domains
Maintains and repairs chemical feed systems at wells; changes chlorine cylinders; fills fluoride drums.Maintains and repairs control systems, including SCADA systems.Maintains and repair pipe systems at wells.Collects water samples for laboratory analysis.Operates heavy equipment to perform installation, maintenance, and repair functions.Maintains and repairs fire hydrants.Locates watersystem utilities upon requests.Monitors wells and booster stations for daily production.Repairs and replaces water meters.Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations.Maintains logs and completes reports.Performs related duties.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

The Water System Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include federal and state drinking water regulations and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related water system maintenance and repair duties. Inclement weather and field conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair water system equipment and infrastructure. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of safe drinking water for all customers.CONTACTS

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of personal safety equipment such as masks, goggles, gloves, steel toed boots, hearing protection, hard hat, etc.SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school diploma.Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.Possession of a State of Alabama Water System Operator Grade II certification.Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Ala ama for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.BENEFITS
