POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Global Leader of Innovative Medicine CPA, you will act as a leader, strategist and communication ambassador for the Company. You will shape, amplify and accelerate key business priorities for the J&J IM business in North America (NA), enabling the region to accelerate its market leadership goals and deliver ground-breaking pharmaceutical solutions for healthcare professionals and patients. You will encourage and develop an impactful team of 50 CPA professionals, including six direct reports, to implement strategic and coordinated internal and external CPA strategies. You will serve as a member of Leadership Teams for NA IM and IM CPA.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy :
Integrate knowledge from external networks and broad understanding of business, competitive and industry priorities to implement communication plans that drive key strategic, business and reputational outcomes and shape the environment for the Company’s products and solutions.
Drive integration across Johnson & Johnson sectors, connect enterprise platforms and present the interests of the Company with one voice for the benefit of the total global business.
Guide NA and CPA leads to pioneer and use a full range of channels and strategies, including patient advocacy, media relations, and employee engagement to promote, improve and defend reputation, while encouraging deeper levels of employee engagement.
Executive Counsel:
Translate regional business goals into tangible CPA strategies and activities that support growth and reputation for a highly sophisticated and dynamic business.
Be a senior advisor for the NA Company Group Chairman and NA Leadership Team, providing key insights and perspectives to influence business decisions, drive business growth and enhance trust.
Serve as senior issues management leader on sophisticated topics including product safety, pricing, access and more.
Employee Engagement:
Harness organizational change expertise to drive alignment and engagement of 5,000 employees across North America to Lead Where Medicine is Going.
Build trust in our strategy and improve the reputation of IM and Johnson & Johnson with current and prospective regional talent.
External, Media and Public affairs:
Lead media relations, patient advocacy, issues management, and therapeutic area/brand public relations for the entire IM product and pipeline portfolio in NA.
Partner with Commercial, Government Affairs & Policy, Market Access, Medical Affairs and more to identify and prioritize policy issues and opportunities (e.g., regulatory & reimbursement reform, transparency, IP, pricing models) and shape CPA plans at the regional level.
Lead comprehensive NA public affairs and patient advocacy strategy. Proactively “Drive the Debate” for positive change to healthcare policies, ensuring plans are embedded within prioritized Therapeutic Areas in a compliant manner.
Leadership:
Foster a One Team approach; collaborate and drive for the best outcomes.
Develop, lead and model a world-class CPA function. Build an impactful organization with an innovative culture and a metrics-backed approach.
Improve the communication capabilities of senior executives and work to develop and strengthen the communication team in the region.
Explore and act upon new opportunities, build capabilities and set direction for future state of CPA function.
Demonstrate credibility, passion and dedication in building strong relationships to achieve key outcomes.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred
Experience and Skills:
Required
Minimum 12 years senior-level experience in communication; Pharma experience
Deep experience in building, mentoring and coaching a large team of diverse communication leaders
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to partner with leaders at all levels up through the Executive Committee
Creative and entrepreneurial, with a track record for translating critical thinking into action plans and outcomes
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution
Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs today, managing complexity, ambiguity and multiple priorities
Operate with a global approach even in a regional leadership role, with appreciation, awareness, understanding and compassion for different ideas and styles of working
Proven track record to attract, hire, lead and develop impactful teams
Collaborate across the business, bringing an integrative view that connects people, insights and realities
Exceptional writing, editing and oral presentation skills for a broad range of target audiences
Must be comfortable with business travel within North America, as well as occasional global travel
Salary
The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.
The base pay range for this position is $188,000 - $345,000 USD
Bonus
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

Vacation – up to 160 hours per calendar year
Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
