Performs activities related to water and wastewater system maintenance,including water quality and water supply. Inspects, installs, repairs,replaces, tests and certifies water mains, water services, water meters,fire hydrants, backflow protection devices and other related watersystem assets. Inspects, installs, repairs and replaces sewer lines,lateral cleanouts, manholes, collection mains, operates video equipmenton sewer lines, to determine system deficiencies and other relatedwastewater system assets. Inspects sewer lift stations; ensures SCADAalarms are communicating; conducts visual inspections of wet wells andpump cycling and float conditions. Responds to Service Orders related toline locations. Marks water and wastewater infrastructure, as well assubsidiary owned electric lines near pump stations and their respectiveemergency generator assemblies. Performs customer support activity.Interacts with the public in a professional manner. Notifies customersof scheduled and emergency outages. Proficient with interpretingtechnical and operational documents, manuals, blueprints, system maps,construction specs and standards. Reads meters manually and/or usingautomated equipment. Responds quickly and accurately to servicerequests. Operates and/or oversees operation of heavy machinery,including dump truck, Vactor truck, and backhoe, as well as otherrelated equipment, in performing skilled and semiskilled duties forwater and system wastewater maintenance. Timely completes work orders,forms, records, and other associated paperwork both manually anddigitally. Performs basic preventative maintenance of heavy machinery,greasing, fluid checks, pre-trip inspections, etc. Analyzes andevaluates pump equipment. Troubleshoots malfunctions. Monitors watersupply and wastewater operations. Performs moderately complex tasks toensure compliance with water quality, wastewater compliance, andenvironmental regulations. Updates and executes System Flushing Program,Cross-Connection Control Program, Spill Response Program, andPreventative Maintenance Program. Operates leak detection equipment andanalyzes data to complete assigned duties. Performs routine sampling ofsystem water supply and wastewater systems. Reads and interpretstechnical & operational documents, manuals, blueprints, and diagrams.Must be able to effectively communicate with customers to effectivelyresolve any issues or concerns. Interacts with the public in aprofessional manner. Functions as the lead for Utility Technicians inall aspects of the operation of the water supply and distributionsystems, wastewater collection, and pumping systems. Resolves escalatedcustomer complaints. Responds to complex customer questions. Completesforms, records, and other associated paperwork, both manually anddigitally. Plans construction and site-work accordingly and communicatesplan-of-action with Superintendent and O&M team. Must be capable ofdelegating tasks to Utility Technician I, II, and III. Proficiently setpriority levels to task and meet deadlines. Provides training and leaddirection to crews both in and out of the field. Works independentlyunder general supervision of Assistant Superintendent / Superintendentor Utility Manager, as appropriate to the location. In coordinationAssistant Superintendent/Superintendent or Utility Manager, assists inkeeping Utility Technician crews on task and time with yearly contractdeliverables. This also includes continuously updating deliverabletrackers. Responsible for ensuring Utility Technician I, II and IIIadhere to all safety standards and requirements. Performs other dutiesas assigned.
