GENERAL SUMMARY:Assist in control and maintenance of conveying equipment. Shovel coke and limestone spillage onto conveyors. Take samples of raw materials for analysis. Drives, loads, and unloads trucks. Start and stop pumps, and adjust valves of ash system. Sweep, wash, clean, and paint buildings, floors, and equipment. Assist in inspection, maintenance, and repair of the coke handling system. Maintain roads, lawns, shrubs, and flowers. Operate heavy equipment with blades, winches, and buckets. Apply chemical to the coke pile for capping of the pile. Keep logs on equipment and materials. Read and understand Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams' vendor instructions.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Assists in control and maintenance of conveying equipment using hand tools and lubricating equipment.- Shovels coke and limestone spillage onto conveyors.- Takes samples of raw materials for analysis.- Load trucks with pit ash from the waste pit.- Load limestone trucks and maintain limestone unloading system.- Drives, loads, and unloads trucks.- Starts and stops pumps, and adjusts valves of ash system.- Sweeps, washes, cleans, and paints buildings, floors, and equipment.- Assists in inspection, maintenance, and repair of the coke handling system.- Maintains roads, lawns, shrubs, and flowers, using power mowers and gardener's hand tools.- Operates heavy equipment, particularly bulldozers and front-end loaders with blades, winches, and buckets to load, push, or transport coke to the coke handling system.- Applies chemical to the coke pile for capping of the pile.- Keep logs on equipment and materials and submits production reports to supervisor.- Read and understand Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams' vendor instructions.- Abide by all plant operating procedures.- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all plant safety and housekeeping rules.- Any other responsibilities as assigned by plant management.APTITUDES:- Must have high degree of mechanical and process control aptitude.- Must be able to use algebra, geometry or shop math.- Ability to define problems, collect data, draw conclusions, interpret instruction and use logic to solve problems, and to communicate using technical written and spoken English.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Heavy lifting - may require lifting up to 70 pounds with frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Required to climb ladders and stairs, and work on scaffolding. Ability to operate heavy equipment, particularly bulldozers and front-end loaders. Frequently bends, stoops, and lifts heavy objects. Must be able to work rotating shifts covering 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Indoors/outdoors. Extreme cold and high ambient air conditions can exist. Exposure to mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, radiant heat, toxic chemicals, and fumes and dust from limestone/coke/boiler ash distribution. Certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment, as well as mandatory hard hats, safety glasses, and hearing protection for long periods. Subject to call out hours.HIRING PRACTICES:This is an entry level position. Most skills are learned through training on-the-job.LICENSING:Must possess a State of Montana Low Pressure Operators License or successfully pass the test within 18 months of employment. Must possess a valid driver's license. May be required to obtain a commercial driver's license.
