  Situated within the University of Oregon’s Office of the Provost (OtP), UO Online works closely with faculty to enhance academic excellence, support student success, and elevate UO’s academic profile.   Position Summary

  In support of the academic mission of the University of Oregon, the UO Online Instructional Technologist will leverage an understanding of pedagogical approaches, as well as expert knowledge of learning technology tools, to help faculty implement effective strategies for emerging teaching formats such as hybrid and hyflex. Within UO Online, this position serves as a bridge for faculty, ensuring continuity of service from front-line Canvas support to comprehensive instructional design support. In service of emerging teaching formats, the instructional technologist works closely with Faculty Canvas Support, UO Online instructional designers, technical staff from Information Services, and colleagues in the Teaching Engagement Program.

  Minimum Requirements

  This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of technology and information systems generally obtained through an AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience.

  Professional Competencies

  • Demonstrated understanding of instructional methods and curricular innovations in higher education.

  • Ability to evaluate new software, concisely articulating the relative advantages and disadvantages as compared to other solutions.

  • Ability to teach technology skills and interpret technical information for those with varying technical competencies.

  • Proficiency with learning management systems.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to prioritize and bring multiple projects to completion in a timely manner.

  • Exceptional communication skills. Ability to create content for print and web.

  Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 2 years of experience working with Canvas or a similar Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Experience working with faculty members, graduate employees, and students from diverse disciplines and cultures.

  • Experience delivering training in a workshop format.

  • Experience authoring content using principles of universal design.

  • Experience creating content to meet WCAG accessibility standards.
