　　The University Librarian at Mines is a dynamic leader, responsible foroverseeing all aspects of the university's library in alignment with Minesstrategic goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in academiclibrary management, a deep appreciation for STEM disciplines, and a visionfor advancing the library's role in supporting research, teaching, andlearning across campus. The Executive Director of the university's Museum ofEarth Sciences reports to the University Librarian.

　　ResponsibilitiesThe University Librarian works effectively in a collaborative environmentwithin the department, with other Mines leaders, and with externalpartners to accomplish the following:Provide leadership which enhances the mission and activities of the departmentby overseeing a vision and strategy, strengthening library impact, andfostering collaboration with other programs on campus.Align the department with the university's goals, strategic initiatives,and its STEM focus.Oversee management and assessment of the department, with budgetaryresponsibilities for the library's operations.Promote and advocate for the Museum of Earth Sciences within the universityand to outside organizations.Promote and support continued professional growth of library faculty and staffin the areas of professional education and training, research, and appliedknowledge.Oversee recruitment and retention of exceptional library faculty and staff.Cultivate an outstanding physical and virtual environment for library users.Foster a climate that supports and celebrates diversity, inclusion, andaccess.Represent the Library and Museum to the administration and university, andto public and private agencies at the local, regional, national, andinternational levels.Lead efforts in fundraising, alumni engagement, and external support forthe Library.

　　Minimum QualificationsThe University Librarian is appointed at the rank of full Librarian in thedepartment. Therefore, a master's degree in library and informationscience from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent degree, with adistinguished record of accomplishment in professional responsibilities,scholarship/teaching, and service is required. In addition, a qualifiedcandidate will have demonstrated:Progressive experience in academic library administration, includingleadership and advancing library goals.Evidence of successful implementation of organizational, budgetmanagement, and personnel skills.Record of operating in a collaborative, transparent, and collegial manner.Commitment to advancing diversity, inclusion, and access.

　　Preferred QualificationsEducation in STEM or experience working in a STEM-focused environment.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with university administration,faculty, staff, students, and the public.Demonstrated ability to engage librarians and staff in successful teamwork,collaborative planning, and the delivery of user-centered services.Understanding of the role of the academic library in teaching, research,and resource management, and of librarians as faculty.Record of supporting employee growth and development.Experience with project management, data-informed decision making, andlong-range planning.Demonstrated success fostering collaborations and resource sharing in librarycommunities.Record of successful fundraising.Informed understanding of the role of museums in an academic environment.
