  Two Faculty Positions Available in the Department of Statistics and Data Science, Cornell University

  Cornell University invites nominations and applications for two available positions for assistant, associate, or full professor in the Department of Statistics and Data Science (). The department has a strong tradition of theoretical and interdisciplinary research and teaching that takes advantage of Cornell University's extensive and diverse academic community. The department itself is an interdisciplinary partnership that includes the (CALS), where these two positions reside, the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of ,and theSchool of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR). Specializations in the department range from mathematical statistics, computational statistics, and machine learning to the development of statistical methods for astrophysics, ecology, economics, epidemiology, financial modeling, genomics, high dimensional data, imaging, neurobiology, medicine, and public health.

  These 9-month, full-time tenure-track positions will be hired at an open rank (either assistant, associate, or full professor as negotiated) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Applicants should have a recognized research program in one or more of the following areas: statistical methodology, statistical theory, or data science. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and a commitment to collaboration, collegiality, and building an inclusive academic environment.

  Responsibilities: These positions have an effort split of 50% research and 50% teaching.

  Research (50%) - The successful candidate will develop and maintain an externally funded research program and peer-reviewed publications that apply advanced data science, statistical methodology, or statistical theory to advance the CALS mission.

  Teaching (50%) - The successful candidate will be responsible for three courses per academic year, as negotiated with the department chair, at the undergraduate and graduate level.

  The Department of Statistics and Data Science is integral to several of Cornell University's Radical Collaborative Initiatives including Data Science, Sustainability, Digital Agriculture, Genome Biology, and Infection Biology. Opportunities exist for a faculty member to integrate departmental activities with broader university programs and the profession.

  Required Qualifications:

  Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, or a closely aligned field completed by the date of appointment and show promise of or have already developed a national and international reputation for their statistical methodology, statistical theory, or data science research. We seek innovative scholars who will develop a research program connected to college and university priorities.

  CALS hiring range for position:

  Assistant Professor: $79,400 - $135,000

  Associate Professor: $97,500 - $148,500

  Professor: $109,500 - $250,000

  $76,200.00 - $211,000.00
