UPMC Altoona is hiring a Registered Nurse with experience in trauma populations to help support our Trauma Department! This is full-time, dayshift position with occasional weekends as needed. The Trauma Service Registrar functions as a member of the Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Service staff, with responsibility for timely completion and submission of trauma registry data to the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation.
Responsibilities:
Attends Multi-disciplinary Rounds on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Prepares reports for Trauma Performance Improvement and requested information needed by Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Service Medical Director, Administrative Director, and Trauma PI Coordinator.
Maintains Trauma Log according to data collection specifications set forth by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation, and submits data in a timely manner.
Attends monthly Trauma Performance Improvement meeting.
Completes monthly inter-rater reliability. Obtain and return appropriate medical records daily. Enter the necessary data into the NTDB (National Trauma Data Bank).
Participates in Trauma Performance Improvement activities.
Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Service office responsibilities which includes: Assists Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Secretary with workload during high volume periods. Assumes scheduling of Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Clinic patients when Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Secretary is not available.
Completes necessary data collection, including chart abstraction on all patients.
Restocks Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Clinic exam rooms weekly.
Provides clinical assistance in the Emergency Department when needed. Provides clinical assistance for Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Clinic.
Assists with Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Service education and outreach programs.
Assures organization of Trauma Registry Office and Trauma patient office charts/Trauma Registry.
Maintains proficient computer skills. Maintains accuracy of data submission.
Participates in daily rounds on weekends and when Administrative Director and PI Coordinator are not available for rounds.
Completes collection of patient information when there are more than three (3) new admissions.
Monitors all audit filters and complications/occurrences and compiles monthly report for review by the Medical Director, Administrative Director and Trauma PI Coordinator.
Updates Altoona Trauma / Emergency General Surgery Service forms as needed.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a valid PA RN license.
Three years' experience in a trauma patient population required
Trauma Nurse Course Completion.
Proficient Computer skills in Microsoft Office, Power Point, Excel spreadsheets and data entry.
Familiarity with Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF).
ICD9 and ICD10 experience preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Registered Nurse (RN)
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
