This position will be expected to work closely and collaboratively with college staff and community partners.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

The Transition Specialist is responsible for providing guidance and assistance to AE students. This position will help with program recruitment, placement, retention and student completion and transition into other program such as MIBEST, Academics, Career and Technical Education and/or Workforce training. This position will assist with eliminating student barriers to aid in successful program completion. This position will be expected to work closely and collaboratively with college staff and community partners.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Mandatory
Bachelor’s degree (Education, Adult Education or related field preferred)
Must be patient, flexible, culturally proficient, and able to work with individuals from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and school administrators.
Be able to work strategically to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Display professional behavior and appearance.
Knowledge and experience teaching ABE, ASE, ESL, HSE, and/or CTE.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
Maintain knowledge of program guidelines, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Organize student assessments and orientation sessions.
Uses formal and informal assessment data to monitor and document student progress.
Maintain student records, review student attendance in the AE data management system.
Track, grade and assign credentials and/or certificates for Smart Start.
Collect, manage, and submit necessary records in the AE data management system.
Monitor student behavior, attendance and academic progress and meet with students regularly regarding these program requirements.
Establish positive and trusting relationship with students and staff.
Participate in the retention and follow-up of students.
Maintain all professional development records for Adult Education Staff and input information in the AE data management system.
Coordinate and/or provide supportive services that lead to academic persistence and success using internal college and external community resources.
Collaborate with the regional workforce development systems, local business, and other community organizations to facilitate employment search, internship and/or job placement.
Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and effective use of resources.
Connect students with academic advising, including setting career, and academic goals.
Develop an educational plan to identify student assets, barriers, and support services needed to address challenges.
Recruit students for AE and MIBEST Programs, including development of recruitment, marketing and outreach materials.
Create and coordinate student surveys for Adult Education Program.
Work with Program Director in coordinating Adult Education Graduation.
Maintain student inquires and send correspondences to prospective Adult Education students.
Develop outreach and recruiting materials for Adult Education Program.
Create classes in Laces for the Adult Education Program.
Work with Intake Specialist and Manager to ensure registration processes are efficient and effective.
Alternate tester for Workkeys and TABE Assessments for Adult Education Program.
Develop and maintain Corrective Action Plans for appropriate Adult Education Students.
Schedule, review, and document findings for folder audits for instructors and intake specialist for the Adult Education Program.
Assist, coordinate and plan AE/MIBEST Week student activities.
Review and utilize program data on retention, progression and completion to support continuous program improvement.
Attend all required state Adult Education conference, meetings, and trainings.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
