Responsibilities
The Training Coordinator, in consultation with the Office of Research Education, will develop a comprehensive, educational plan and provide training programs on regulatory requirements, polices, and procedures for the use of animals in research.
Training will also address zoonosis, exposure to allergies, personal hygiene, protective equipment, and other aspects of occupational health and safety.
Education will be provided to Department of Comparative Medicine staff and the broader Mayo Clinic Research community through the development of online modules, classroom training, hands-on animal training, facility orientation, and other methods.
The Training Coordinator will provide training through in multiple environments including one-on-one training, small group training, and large group lectures.
Documentation of training provided and any follow-up training that is required will be maintained.
The Training Coordinator will keep apprised of regulatory and procedural changes to update training materials and delivery methods as needed.
The Training Coordinator will update the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and Department of Comparative Medicine leadership regarding training that has been provided, training materials development, and future training opportunities.
Additional duties may be assigned as the required to fulfill departmental responsibilities.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is not eligible for F-1 OPT STEM extension.
Qualifications
This position requires an Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology,
A Bachelor's degree in a scientific field is desired.
Basic knowledge of animal techniques including: anesthesia, aseptic techniques, drug administration, recognition of normal animal behavior, and appropriate handling of laboratory animals are required.
Knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements for the use of animals in research are required.
Computer skills are required including proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Two years experience with laboratory animal species required.
Additional Qualifications
Prior experience as a Veterinary Technologist at Mayo Clinic preferred.
The knowledge and familiarity of Mayo Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee policies is preferred.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with people in a wide range of organizational roles and education levels are required.
Demonstrated ability to function in a self-directed manner is required.
Excellent organizational skills are required.
License or Certification
Veterinary Technologist Certification is required.
Certification as Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist through the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science is desired.
