  Summary This position is located at US Mint,Mint-Phi/Man/Design and Engraving Div. As a Toolmaker, you will develop non-standard die blank shapes for hub and die designs. Responsibilities As a Toolmaker, you will: Fabricate parts for machine tools, jigs and fixtures; determine work materials, procedures and sequences of operations working from blueprints, sketches, specifications and oral instructions; and, construct special tooling as required (e.g., gang fixtures, special collets for odd-sized dies, die sets and blocks for centering dies on hubbing presses, shields and drivers). Machine and finish reduction hubs. Manufacture master dies and work hubs, used to produce production dies, by establishing the impression on the prepared blank using a hydraulic press and shaping the hub or die to specified dimensions using various machine tools, such as lathes, cylindrical grinders and surface grinders. Use various techniques to obtain specified dimensions in regard to height and depth of impressions, such as form grinding with special wheels, deburring, and polishing. Grind centering slots in work hubs and prepare lead impressions and trial dies as required. Requirements Conditions of Employment All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. A one year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer. If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so. Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be able to work all shifts on a rotational basis. May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc. Pass a pre-employment physical examination. Physical Requirements: Duties require prolonged, standing on, concrete, floors, stooping, reaching, bending and lifting up light or moderate from 15-44 pounds. Subject to extensive use of delicate optical instruments, vernier and micrometer scales, dial instruments and magnifying glasses.
