PPG Aerospace has a job opening for a Tooling Engineer ! As a Tooling Engineer, you will plan, organize, and manage multiple tooling projects of varying degrees of complexity to meet the tooling needs of the plant, while ensuring that Aircraft Product's manufacturing performance improvement objectives are met or exceeded, and customer requirements are satisfied. Support tool-up of new programs. Work cross-departmentally with program managers, engineers, and tool shop.
Key Responsibilities :
Establish tooling requirements for programs, including cost estimates and schedules. Identify all resources (in-house and outsourced) necessary to support tooling fulfillment and schedule attainment.Coordinate with Project Managers, Design and Production Engineers to support all tooling aspects of ongoing/future projects and manufacturing process improvements.Collaborate with Tooling Shop to define all aspects of tool fabrication. Ensure that all materials and documentation needed for fabrication are ready at the start of projects.Manage the transition of legacy program documentation into digital format. Improve control and documentation methods using Solidworks PDM.Coordinate with Sourcing and Vendors concerning outsourced jobs- providing technical expertise as required. Manage outside vendors with on-time and on-budget delivery of tooling projects.Design master, gage, and process tooling to meet all quality and product definition requirements. Generate 2D/3D CAD along with detailed drawings to ASME standards.Explore and introduce new methods of tool design/fabrication for time, cost and quality improvements.Implement tooling solutions to production processes that improve ergonomic function and first-time yield.Use additive manufacturing for rapid prototyping and streamlining of production point-of-use and process tooling.Qualifications :
Engineering degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical discipline requiredPrior mechanical design experience using CAD tools required (internships and co-ops applicable)3 years of related design/ME work preferredPrior tooling experience is preferred, but not requiredExperience with 3D CAD software (Solidworks preferred)Experienced with AutoCAD 2D softwareMust possess knowledge of common manufacturing processes and machines, including mills, lathes, assembly, inspection, etcSolid understanding of common manufacturing materials, GDandT, and tolerance stack upMust be a US CitizenAbout us:
