Work involves researching, interviewing, and collecting information to produce articles, web content and other materials made available to the public.Writes and prepares social media content and maintains active, engaging social media platforms for the agency, assuring continuous transparent communications about activities and operations.Monitors and evaluates state legislative issues and actions with potential impact to the Texas juvenile justice system or TJJD operations, assessing how these developments translate into TJJD communications plans.Handles written and verbal communications with various audiences, including the media, legislators, legislative staff, advocates, families of TJJD youth and members of the public.Helps develop reports, including the agencys strateg c plans and programs. Prepares presentations and assists with projects and activities at executive level and across the agency. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek and be on call.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPrepares and edits agency publications, brochures, news releases, educational scripts and social media posts and campaigns.Prepares and/or edits talking points, speeches, or presentations for executive-level staff.Conducts interviews with sources and program experts; and creates and ensures that printed and online materials are thorough, accurate and engaging.Responds to general information inquiries about agency activities, which may include inquiries from media outlets, legislative offices, and the general public.Manages the agencys social media platforms and develops engaging, accurate social media content and campaigns with a goal of connecting staff, stakeholders, and the public to vital information about agency operations and goals. Monitors comments and messages and composes responses. Develops plans to improve engagement.Assists with public education campaigns and publicizing programs to community and professional groups to coordinate, improve, and stimulate interest in agency programs.Writes and edits website content and variety of collateral materials, digital and printed, about the agency and its mission.Maintains connections with and helps train agency staff members who submit news items for social media and the website. Four (4) years of full-time wage-earning experience that may be any combination of the following: journalism, public relations, public information, communications, or media relations. Completed course hours of graduate study may substitute for up to two years of experience on a basis of 12 graduate course hours for one year of experience.ORHigh School Diploma or equivalent.
