The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the Universityof Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for multiple full-timefaculty positions at all ranks. Exceptional candidates in all areasrelevant to Mechanical Engineering will be considered. The Department ofMechanical Science and Engineering is committed to building a culturallydiverse educational environment, with a focus on diversifying thefaculty. We are seeking faculty who can teach in these and other areaswhile contributing to the diversity and excellence in our program andcourses through their research, teaching and service. Senior andmid-career faculty are encouraged to apply, though all qualifiedcandidates will be considered.
Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an activeand independent research program, teach effectively at both theundergraduate and graduate levels, and provide service to thedepartment, the university, and the profession. Ideal candidates includethose who demonstrate evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, andinclusion through research, teaching, and/or service endeavors.
Our faculty and students are affiliated with and have access toworld-class experimental and computational facilities located inon-campus multidisciplinary research (fundamental and translational)centers and laboratories, including: Applied Research Institute ,Advanced Materials Testing and Evaluation Laboratory , AerodynamicsResearch Laboratory , the Coordinated Science Laboratory , the Centerfor Hypersonics and Entry Systems Studies , Frederick Seitz MaterialsResearch Laboratory , Holonyak Micro & Nanotechnology Lab , the BeckmanInstitute for Advanced Science and Technology , and the National Centerfor Supercomputing Applications .
A doctoral degree in a relevant engineering or science field is requiredat the start date, and salary will be commensurate with qualificationsand experience. Candidates must be qualified to teach courses atgraduate and undergraduate levels in Mechanical Science and Engineering.To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by December15, 2023, however, applications may be considered until positions arefilled. The expected startdate is August 16, 2024, but other start dates may be considered.
