About Test Specialist A, Communication Maintenance Services

  This is a high-level position that works within the Field Communications, Telecom Test Services group, under the Communication Maintenance Services team. This position requires advanced level of understanding of electricity and how to safely take measurements on electronic systems. The candidate will handle technical assignments associated with acceptance testing, maintenance, and/or repair of various battery systems; and perform basic maintenance tasks of telecom buildings and facilities. In addition, this position will perform Infrared thermographic inspections of electrical equipment inside electric substations and on three-phase power lines (three-phase backbone). This position will create reports of findings using MS Excel, MS Word, and other software platforms. The selected candidate must be able to work and solve problems independently and on a team. This position is responsible for compliance and maintenance of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) systems.

  Successful candidates must pass Tech Test.

  Essential Functions:

  Calibrates, adjusts, and modifies performance characteristics of equipment to comply with regulatory and/or operation requirements.Reads and interprets engineering drawings such as schematics, wiring, logic and interconnections diagrams and updates with field changes.Provides input to reports, drawings, sketches, logs, and records of work performed.Analyzes and interprets test results; provides recommendations to engineering, operations, maintenance, and other personnel for repairs or increased performance. Recommends operations changes for equipment to enhance system reliability when applicable.Provides technical expertise, advice, and support to engineering, construction, test, and other personnel as required.Assists with the maintenance of various systems, web pages and/or databasesIdentifies and provides advice on the need for major repairs or outside technical assistance.Supports training and development of Test Technicians and Test Specialist B. Assists with training and educating other test personnel, electricians, vendors, and contractors.Must work on-call and during emergency restoration efforts as required.Communication Maintenance Services:

  Works on technical assignments associated with infrared inspection of transmission and distribution substation and distribution overhead equipment; Cathodic Protection systems and associated corrosion inspection of transmission, gas, telecom, and garage facilities; as well as battery plants and buttery monitors at telecom sites. Selected candidate may also assist CMS Engineers with maintenance and repairs of transformer monitoring systems at electrical substations. Individual is responsible for compliance and maintenance of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) systems and must maintain annual CIP certification.Performs acceptance, installation, or post-installation tests on new or newly installed equipment and verifies correct operation of new electronic devices or systems.Test, troubleshoot, and maintain primary and backup battery electrical systems.Interpret test results to detect developing trends that may lead to system failures.Calibrates, adjusts, and modifies performance characteristics of equipment to comply with regulatory and/or operation requirements.Input test results into computer databases and close work orders after performing testing.Contribute to the input and maintenance of databases used for analyzing data collected in the field.Analyze collected data to verify that battery systems are in compliance with manufactures specifications and agency requirements.Address maintenance related items at remote telecommunication sites, including basic maintenance of HVAC systems, batteries, chargers, etc.Interpret electronic and electrical drawings for general telecommunication site repairs.Have basic mechanical aptitude for addressing structural maintenance items needing replacement or repair.Inspect/reprogram/resetgenerators and transfer switches when needed for running weekly automated tests.May contact vendors and work with them to address and solve major equipment malfunctions.May test cathodic protection systems and perform associated corrosion inspection of transmission, gas, telecom, and garage facilities after proper training.Qualifications:

  Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic components, circuitry, and systems.Ability to use computer-based technology with various types of operating systems(MS office and others).Skill and manual dexterity in making repairs, adjustments, and modifications to equipment.Strong knowledge of testing electrical equipment using voltmeter/ digital multimeter.Basic skill in using common hand tools.Ability to communicate technical information effectively, in both verbal and written form.Strong knowledge of industry safety rules and practices.Education:

  Associates Degree in electric engineering or electrical technology (preferred) or equivalent.Experience:

  A minimum of 6 to 8 years of relatedexperience.Electricalor HVAC experience is strongly preferred.Licenses & Certifications:

  Critical Infrastructure Protection certification must be maintained annually;Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. CDL is preferredfor Emergency Storm response assignment.Compensation and Benefits:

  Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $97,250.00to $108,050.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.W orking Conditions:
