  Position

  The Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies in the University of Iowa College of Education invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position to begin August 14, 2024.

  Description

  The Dean of the College of Education and program faculty are dedicated to developing innovative principal licensure and superintendent certification programs that build on our legacy of developing highly effective principals and superintendents. We are committed to preparing leaders who inspire teachers and make it their mission to provide their students with the best preparation for their futures. We welcome candidates who want to build this mission through embracing challenge, change, and innovation.

  The Iowa Educational Leadership Program offers four degrees.

  M.A. (designed for principal licensure)

  Ed.S. (designed for superintendent certification)

  Ed.D. (designed for working administrators, fully online)

  Ph.D.

  The candidate hired will teach and mentor students in multiple degree programs.

  Responsibilities

  The successful applicant will maintain an ongoing program of research in an area related to educational leadership; design and teach courses in Educational Leadership with a commitment to online offerings; and advise MA, Ed.S., Ed.D., and PhD students. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure external funding, participate in the activities of professional organizations, and be involved with state and national activities that support the practice of school leadership.

  Salary

  Highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent start-up package, benefits, and research support.

  Appointment

  Nine-month, academic year tenure-track appointment beginning August 14, 2024.

  About the Educational Leadership Program

  The Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies (EPLS) at the University of Iowa includes 15 faculty members and serves over 150 students. The department includes three programs: Educational Leadership, Education Policy and Leadership Studies (Ed.D.), and Higher Education and Student Affairs. EPLS has an international reputation for advancements in the areas of evaluation and assessment, educational measurement, and effective undergraduate education, among many other research initiatives. In addition to supporting impactful research, EPLS values and uplifts the work of its faculty practitioners, leaning into the crucial intersection of scholarship and practice in instruction, program planning, and student support.

  About the College

  The College of Education offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including licensure, endorsement, and certificate programs, many of which are regularly ranked among the best in the nation. Students study with our world-renowned faculty who are the leaders in their fields. Our college is comprised of four departments: Educational Policy and Leadership Studies, Psychological and Quantitative Foundations, Counselor Education, and Teaching and Learning. The College houses several Centers that support work in critical areas of education, including UI REACH, Iowa Reading Research Center, Scanlan Center for School Mental Health, and the Belin-Blank Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development. The College is guided by a Strategic Plan which includes actively engaging with diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. The College works intentionally through The Community Council.

  Education Requirement:

  Prospective candidates must have an earned doctorate in Educational Leadership or a related field by August 2024.

  Required Qualifications:

  Experience in PK-12 leadership

  Commitment to leadership for social justice

  Demonstrated engagement with PK-12 schools

  A record or promise of scholarly productivity

  Evidence of excellent teaching skills at the college
