Position Description:This position at the University of Louisville (UofL) with TRIO Upward Bound and TRIO Talent Search is a summer position only with an estimated state date in late May. Review of applications will only occur once per year and typically starts in February and continues through late March. The schedule for this position is Sunday - Friday or Monday - Friday, hours will vary. Applicants will be taken into consideration for 1 of 3 programs; UofL Upward Bound 1, UofL Upward Bound 2, and UofL TRIO Talent Search 1. The positions report directly to the Program Director.Essential Duties & Requirements:The RESIDENT COUNSELOR will live in a residence hall and supervise approximately 65 to 170 high school students who are participating in a six-week educational program at UofL during the summer. For summer 2024, the residential component program dates are tentatively June 3, 2024, - July 12, 2024, with orientation for housing staff May 29, 2024 - May 31, 2024. The hourly rate is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position Description: Each Resident Counselor will be assigned a group of 10-15 students but is responsible for supervising every student in a group living environment to ensure their safety and well-being 24 hours a day. The Resident Counselor is required to reside in the designated residence hall with the Upward Bound or Talent Search students for the duration of the appointment and maintain 24-hour residency for 6 days a-week for 6 weeks.•The Resident Counselor must be able to tutor, counsel, teach, supervise, and be a positive role model.•The Resident Counselor will use professional ethics, implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the summer component, and supervise students to ensure their safety and well-being.•The Resident Counselor will provide support to students in personal, social, and academic areas. •Assess any residence hall problems, assimilate facts, process viewpoints, and make decisions in compliance with program guidelines. Supervise students in residence hall during silent study hall hours.•The Resident Counselor will assist in planning, organizing, and implementing academic, recreational, social, and cultural activities, maintain discipline and harmonious relations in the residence hall, classroom, and all other areas of the program, participate in all scheduled academic and recreational activities, field trips and residential life, conduct required workshops for participants (including evening and weekend responsibilities).•The Resident Counselor will serve as a liaison between TRIO Upward Bound & TRIO Talent Search administrative and academic staff and residence hall staff by creating a proper environment for both student and staff.•The Resident Counselor will manage health problems and medical emergencies for students; monitor and evaluate students’ academic and social progress.•The Resident Counselor will see that students are up in the morning and prepared for class and male regular classroom visits; participate in staff orientation and attend staff meetings.•The Resident Counselor will oversee the physical maintenance of the resident hall as it pertains to TRIO Upward Bound and TRIO Talent Search students; this involves establishing procedures for key assignment and collection, prevention of abuse of furniture, lounges, and rooms; checking the condition of rooms before and after TRIO Upward Bound and TRIO Talent Search students’ occupancy.•The Resident Counselor will perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.ADDITIONAL RESIDENT COUNSELOR CANDIDATE INSTRUCTIONSA completed application will include the completed on-line application, a resume, a cover letter addressing how you meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position, and a list of 3 academic or professional references.
