VTG is seeking a Telecommunications Technician 2 in a travel based role to support projects in Philadelphia, PA as well as mulitple Department of State locations across the USand the world.What will you do?
Familiar with installations and repairs telecommunications systems and equipment and performs the following duties:Monitors system performance to assure the dependable and uninterrupted operation of telephone and CCTV communicationsCorrects alarm conditions.Identifies and replaces malfunctioning or inoperative routine equipment, such as circuit cards or processing units, and performs repairs and preventative maintenance.Determines which backup components should be maintained in stock.Troubleshoots standard communications systems to determine if problems are telephone hardware or cabling.Assist senior level technicians with the development of a emergency plan to deal with a catastrophic event.Assists in installation of hardware.Sets up new users and relocates existing users with telephone extensions, calling features, voice mail, and access codes.Terminates cable on cross connects, hubs, and routersReads technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment which meets establishment requirements.Tests and evaluates standard hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems.Performs the following other duties:Copper Cat6, Multimode, and Single mode fiber cable pullingBackbone fiber and copper cable pullingInstalling cable conveyances such as J-hooks, cable tray, ladder rackBuild out of Telecommunications rooms with racks, cabinets, grounding, wall fields, overhead ladder rack and drop offs, etcTermination of RJ45 copper jacks at both patch panel and work area outletsDo you have what it takes?
HS plus four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience to include an AS plus two years in related field or BS in related field.DoD Active Secret Clearance; TS preferredMin of 2 years + of hands on experience for the following:Copper Cat6, Multimode, and Single mode fiber cable pullingBackbone fiber and copper cable pullingInstalling cable conveyances such as J-hooks, cable tray, ladder rackBuild out of Telecommunications rooms with racks, cabinets, grounding, wall fields, overhead ladder rack and drop offs, etcTermination of RJ45 copper jacks at both patch panel and work area outletsAbility to understand floor plans, cable pathways, rack elevation drawings, and ability to Red line any changesAbility to travel for various task orders but primary support to cabling projects in National Capital RegionKnowledgeable in use of standard installation tools such as drill, Sawzall, hilti powdered actuated tool, and othersAdhere to all required safety policies and wear PPE as requiredA valid driver's license may be required.Must have valid PassportMust be able to travel as required.
Preferred but not required hands on experience for the following:Deinstallation and installation of CCTV cameras, mounting to walls, ceilings, etcInstallation of door contacts for Access Control. Other knowledge of Access Control
Termination of SC, LC fiber connectors for MM and SM fiber at both patch panels/modules and work area outletsInstallation and mounting of Paging speakers per design. Testing of paging speakers
