Responsibilities National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Supervisory Health Science Administrator (HSA) within Division of Integrative Biological and Behavioral Sciences (DIBBS), the Division of Clinical and Health Services Research (DCHSR), and the Division of Community Health and Population Science (DCHPS). Overview of NIMHD's interests in the supervisory GS-15 positions NIMHD is looking for individuals with strong scientific expertise in performing or leading research that expands the understanding of the health characteristics of racial/ethnic minority groups or other populations with health disparities and/or improving minority health and reducing health disparities. Candidates for these positions are expected to embrace and champion scientific areas within the Division's scope of work and beyond their area(s) of interest and expertise. The incumbents will serve as experts responsible for providing scientific and technical leadership and direction to promote high-quality research that addresses gaps in knowledge in minority health, and in areas of high public health relevance for populations that experience health disparities, as well as mentor and supervise program officials within NIMHD's three extramural divisions. Duties As a Supervisory GS-15 HSA-Program Official at NIMHD, the incumbent will: - Collaborate with the Division Director on scientific and administrative management activities and provide scientific leadership and direction to the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned research areas in Division of Integrative Biological and Behavioral Sciences (DIBBS), the Division of Clinical and Health Services Research (DCHSR), and the Division of Community Health and Population Science (DCHPS). - Supervise Health Scientist Administrators, Social and Behavioral Sciences Administrators, other scientists, and support staff in the corresponding Divisions. - Serve as the Divisions' referral liaison to the NIMHD Office of Extramural Research Activities; consult with OERA regarding the appropriateness of assignments to NIMHD for competing applications for grants, fellowships and career development awards; evaluate the appropriateness of competing applications for referral to the Division based on alignment with the Division's research interest areas; assign applications to individual program officials within the Division based on scientific expertise and considerations of workload balance. - Serve as Senior Official to develop, coordinate, and administer grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts established to fulfill the mission of NIMHD. -Provide leadership and/or staff support for ongoing projects such as the Institute Director and Deputy Director's activities in science research programs, as well as one-time special projects for the Institute Director and other high-level NIH and Institute officials. - Represent the Division or NIMHD as an authority in planning, development, and implementation of minority health and health/health care disparities research programs. - Work across the NIH and other organizations to promote and coordinate research focused on minority health and health/health care disparities. - Prepare scientific position papers and documents on scientific areas or programs within the Division and/or NIMHD's priorities and interests, including reports emerging from collaborations with non-NIH entities. The Ideal Applicant Since NIMHD is looking for candidates with appropriate background and experience to join our three Divisions, ideal applicants for the non-supervisory HSA positions will also: Possess a medical degree (M.D., or M.D. equivalent), and/or Ph.D. in a field appropriate for the expertise and expectations of the position. For DIBBS, candidates with Ph.D. and/or M.D. or equivalent degree(s) in the biobehavioral and/or social sciences will be desirable. For DCHSR, candidates with a Ph.D. in a health profession or with a Ph.D. and a clinical degree in a health profession will also be ideal. For DIBBS, candidates must have substantial experience in biobehavioral and/or social science. Candidates with multidisciplinary experience in biological sciences, behavioral sciences and or social sciences particularly as it relates to minority health and health disparities are encouraged to apply. For DCHSR, candidates must have substantial experience in clinical research (e.g., clinical trials or interventions, translational medicine), and/or health services and/or health care policy research, particularly as it relates to health/health care disparities. Having current or recent clinical care experience will be a plus.
