Technical Specialist - Madison, WI
NATURE OF WORK:
The Technical Specialist is responsible for process operations across all culture plant processes. Monitoring of production equipment and processes to ensure maximization of manufacturing equipment. This involves working with the Wonderware /PI Historian system, troubleshooting equipment and interacting with engineers, technicians and maintenance to optimize the process. This role works directly with the engineering team, shift supervisors, maintenance team and operations manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Technical point person for Operations, Maintenance and Capital Projects across the Culture Plant area.
Provide technical leadership for fermentation and packaging. Participate in RCFAs as needed for processes in the area. Maintain and update the troubleshooting guide for applicable assets.
Collaborates with cross function teams to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Communication link between operations, engineering, BPD lab and maintenance.
Cascades relevant information to shift supervisor and/or Operations manager: feedback on team member performance including adhering to site policies, delays in production, near misses, and team morale.
Drives safety of individuals by identifying, correcting and improving safety concerns identified by the operations team. Train team members on proper safety techniques.
Actively participates in reviewing and updating procedures for CP Operations.
Trains new team members on document updates as they come through the rotation. Works with Training Coordinator to update training and qualification material as needed.
Creates lock out/tag out plans as needed.
Provide after hour support when issues arise in the Culture Plant area.
Implements, adheres to, and recommends changes to all safety practices and quality assurance policies and procedures including but not limited to ISO 9001 and ISO 22000.
Assist in continuous improvement initiatives by providing technical feedback to project leads. Trains team members on new equipment and processes that are rolled out to the area.
Demonstrates high quality and integrity in work.
Job Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
AAS/BS degree in a scientific or technical field or HS Diploma with 5-8 years manufacturing experience.
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to work with a very diverse, interactive and self-directed group.
Highly motivated and safety conscious.
Sufficiently knowledgeable on the production areas to effectively troubleshoot process and production schedule related issues. Must be cross trained in all probiotic’s fermentation areas.
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail. Must be able to effectively prioritize, organize, and plan responsibilities to meet objectives.
Strong troubleshooting abilities. yellow belt certification or higher is preferred.
Advanced computer skills required, knowledge of SAP, ETQ documentation system, etc.
Ability to read piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) and create lock out plans for operations as needed.
Assist automation engineer with program modifications.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Position will work Monday through Friday with off -hours (holidays) support as needed.
Must be able to handle physical demands of the position including frequent lifting of up to 55 lbs.
Able to work in extreme cold conditions for short period of time.
Must be able to work while using a respirator.
Must be able to effectively communicate with team members and management.
