Currently, our Simulator Support section of Operations Training has a Technical Officer opportunity.
The Simulator Support section is a dynamic team, responsible for supporting the hardware and systems/interface software for high fidelity full scope training simulators. The Technical Officer is required to provide innovative solutions to detailed technical problems related to the maintenance, upgrade and update of real time simulation software, computer systems or simulator hardware for full scope and desktop training simulators.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.
What will you be responsible for?
Provide technical, maintenance and operational support to Bruce A, Bruce B, and Fuel Handling real time nuclear simulators and associated systems. This may include support for a variety of computer software, hardware, and peripherals; custom interfaces; data networks; electronics and electrical equipment and custom software applications
Design, modify or upgrade simulator interface software and custom simulator applications using best practice software engineering techniques
Consistently improve simulator processes and practices to improve quality and efficiency
Supervising staff on a periodic basis, assigning work, checking and monitoring work, and as necessary, giving instruction and direction on work assigned
Knowledge and Skills
Requires a knowledge of physics, chemistry, metallurgy, mathematics, electricity, engineering and economics to technically understand the operation of the facility
Requires advanced knowledge of one of more of these subjects to evaluate and propose improvements to processes, equipment and systems or for unit safety, reliability and performance
Expert computer skills including an ability to write software using the following languages: C, C++ and C#. Proven ability to develop and debug software in Microsoft Visual Studio
Experience performing Windows System Administration tasks are required (Windows 10, Windows Server 2016/2019, Hyper-V)
Experience interfacing computer systems of various types (PC, UNIX, and Embedded) with intelligent devices using a variety of protocols and interfaces (TCP/IP, RS-232/422, VME, PLC/DCS systems)
Experience in Agile Software and Project Management techniques is considered an asset.
Experience using version control software in both small and large software projects is considered an asset
Well-developed understanding of real time software techniques
Ability to diagnose problems resulting from combinations of software and hardware faults.
Experience providing work direction to technicians
Requires a proficiency in verbal and written communications to prepare reports, proposals, recommendations, and presentations
A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, and the ability to work with minimal guidance in a team environment
Education and Experience
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in a four-year University degree in an appropriate discipline such as Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science with a strong background in software development.
A period of over 6 years up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
Substantial experience developing software applications in a team environment is an asset
Engineering or design experience with real-time simulation systems would be an asset
P. Eng. designation or eligibility for P. Eng. designation is an asset
