  Reference #: 3943Job Summary:The Tax Managing Director is responsible for applying industry specific knowledge to advice clients on the tax implications of their business objections, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues.  In this role, Tax Managing Director is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, and recognizing, communicating potential risks and potential changes in the tax policy and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation and resolution of questions from federal / state agencies.  In addition, the Tax Managing Director will be critical member of the office / region leadership team and thus will be involved in the direct supervision as either a final or secondary reviewer under the partner.  Finally, the Tax Managing Director actively participate in the marketing, networking and business development within an area of expertise and specialization while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions.Job Duties:Tax ComplianceEnsures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").Manages engagements to achieve engagement management metricsPractices hands-on client service deliveryResponsible for overall client service by encouraging team's adherence to TQM policies (including engagement letters, documentation, etc)ResearchIdentifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely reports the analysis.Identifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team and provides research methodology for efficient research processTechnical reviewers of WTAs in an area of expertise, as applicable to roleASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax AccrualsCorrectly and proactively applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.Applies technical expertise regarding income tax provisions in the area of international tax, valuation allowance credits, business combinations, and stock based compensation issuesReviews and applies income tax provision efficientlyTax ConsultingAssists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients' current and future taxes.Applies expert knowledge of the process of combining tax knowledge and knowledge of business/industry to recommend solutions and maximize results in the FirmApplies general knowledge of multiple tax specialties (i.e. International, SALT, Estate Planning) for issue identification and resolutionTax SpecializationDevelops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation, e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, corporate, pass-through, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, R&D tax benefits.Has expert knowledge of application of standardsRecognized as industry expert in specialized field of taxationUse expertise to advise clients on tax implications and recommend alternative courses of action and identify different methods of complianceStrategy DevelopmentIntroduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.Depending on specific role, may be required to present complex strategies to clients and prospective clientsOther duties as requiredSupervisory Responsibilities:Ability to supervise associates, senior associates and managers, as the situation dictatesReviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide review commentsActs as a Career Advisor to associates, senior associates and managersSchedules and manages workload of associates, senior associates and managersProvides verbal and written performance feedback to associates, senior associates and managersQualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelors degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferredMasters in Accountancy or Taxation preferredExperience:Ten (10) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience requiredIndustry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferredPrior supervisory experience requiredLicense/Certifications:CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("EA") (or the equivalent of one of these designations) requiredPossession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferredSoftware:Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite preferredExperience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferredLanguage:N/AOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Superior verbal and written communication skillsAbility to effectively delegate work as neededStrong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skillsCapacity to work well in a team environmentCapable of developing and managing a team of tax professionalsAbility to compose written tax adviceCapable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationshipsExecutive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clientsIndividual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.California Range: $200,000 - $300,000Colorado Range: $118,590  - $134,282New York City/ Valhalla Range: $200,000 - $245,000Washington Range: $115,000 - $300,000
