They function as Physician Extenders and work in collaboration with Providers in the Emergency Room. The suture technician assists with (but is not limited to) laceration repair, abscess care, nail bed injuries, dental injuries, splinting/cast removal, and IV access. The Suture team at Akron and MV work directly with ED providers to do wound care and orthopedic care, but also assist with Ophthalmology, Surgery, Orthopedic and Plastic Surgery departments procedures.Responsibilities:1.Provides wound care and suturing of noncomplex wounds and orthopedic injuries as delegated by and under the supervision of the attending provider in ED.2.Provides general emergency care to patients as delegated by and under the direction of the registered nurse and provider.3.Assists in the provision of patient and family education under the direction and supervision of a physician or Registered Nurse.4.Reports to the Nurse Manager of the assigned emergency department.5.Participates in educational efforts of the department and unit.6.demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psych/social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.7.Administers medication under the direction of the Emergency Department provider to include local anesthesia, vaccines, and immunizations.8.Other duties as required and/or assigned.Other information:Initial Hiring Technical Expertise (since the training is internal) below are the initial hiring suggestions1.Experience in suture is preferred.2.Experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse [LPN], emergency medical technician [EMT] or EMT Advanced, Paramedic, Medical Assistant, Surgical Technician is required.3.Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association is required.4.Experience in healthcare is preferred.Initial Hiring Education and Experience1.Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.2.Certification: Certification as an EMT or Medic, Surgical Technician, LPN3.Years of relevant experience: 3 years is preferred.4.Years of experience supervising: None.5.Within 6 months of hire candidate will need to complete approx. 100 hours classroom training (to include didactic training and orthopedic splint tra
