Catalyst Technologies (CT) is a market leader in the syngas value chain. It develops and supplies high-value, specialty process technology and catalysts for chemicals and fuels processing to enable our customers to operate efficiently, profitably and sustainably. With CT at the forefront of the transition to sustainable chemicals and fuels, the transition to net zero is creating exciting new opportunities in this sector.
To initiate and lead the site energy and water reductions, combustion and process emissions reduction, and transition to net zero projects at Savannah in order to meet Johnson Matthey’s long term sustainability goals. This role is envisaged to provide the communication conduit between the Savannah Site, including the Catalyst Technologies, Sector and Group Sustainability teams. The role requires the ability to prioritise and make sustainability recommendations to the senior team in order to guide and deliver decisions and organise actions.
Your responsibilities:
Perform assessments of chemical manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for energy and emission reduction (sustainability) under supervision of Sr Engineer or Manager
Basic level of knowledge of energy and emission calculations used in the industry
Basic understanding and experience with Process technologies relating to the Chemical Industry
Basic understanding of codes and regulations with air and water permits and regulations
Evaluate processes and compare energy opportunities and alternatives under direction of Sr Engineer or Manager
Basic understanding of capital project process, ability to develop requirements and scope of work, applications for requests of funding for sustainability projects
Assist Sr Engineers and Managers with critical research areas such as renewable energy
Ability to calculate NPV, ROI, SPB and other engineering economic evaluations for projects
Assist Sr Engineer and Project Sponsors with developing capex projects, capture customer requirements, and scope of work as assigned
Basic understanding of regulatory compliance with carbon footprint and emissionsWork closely with suppliers, engineers, vendors and contractors with developing and executing projects
Basic knowledge of air pollution management equipment and systems
Develop and lead improvement projects contributing to site utility management and reporting
Site Lead with the Group initiative to have CT sites accredited to ISO 50001
Monthly reporting of Sustainability metrics (energy, water, and emissions)
Requirements for the role:
Degree in Chemical Engineering
Significant experience in the process industry
Generalized knowledge and experience of manufacturing process equipment and plants - learns & uses knowledge for manufacturing innovation
Planning & Organising for Project Delivery- champions change & development plans, steers project delivery
Design, installation and commissioning of new equipment or plant- leads design & technical commissioning of new plant or large complex equipment
Ability to develop hands on plant experience and understanding- organises self and maintains focus to grow own knowledge of different sites for business benefit
Interpersonal communication skills to enthuse & gain commitment from individuals and groups- engages with site & business groups such that they buy into new projects and commit to their delivery
Numeracy skills including process calculations- applies theoretical knowledge to complex issues. Advises and checks others calculations contributing to their development
IT skills, data generation, analysis and presentation- application of IT & data processing techniques to complex manufacturing or plant situations, advising technical groups on best approaches
Management skills including priority setting, planning, reviewing and time management
