About Supervisory Police Officer

Summary This position has been designated as an Essential Position (e.g., snow emergency days, holidays, increased security periods, national emergency). The position cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the mission. Assignments may be performed at any job site within the organization. Responsibilities Serves as shift supervisor over a group of police officers who provide law enforcement and protective service. Exercises control over assigned shift of police officers performing law enforcement and crime prevention duties to maintain law and order during normal and emergency operations. Performs and supervises police duties to assure the protection of life, property, and the civil rights of individuals through the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, agency rules, and regulations. Supervises the activities and operations of all shift law enforcement personnel with responsibility and authority on matters pertaining to shift activities and operations. Ensures DLA personnel, facilities, and resources are protected by maintaining adequate anti-terrorism readiness posture. Enforces and maintains law and order to deter crime and other violations of law, regulation, policy, directive, or rule and to preserve and/or restore the peace. Plans, controls, and supervises the activities and operations of the shift supervised. Inspects shift personnel for minimum standards of appearance, readiness, and equipment operability prior to and during the course of duty assignment, to include observations of patrol posts. Makes periodic inspections of assigned areas, immediately taking corrective action for any discrepancies noted. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for a Supervisory Police Officer, your resume and qualifications must include: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. For current and former Federal civilian service employees, to qualify for the GS-09 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. For all other applicants, to qualify for the GS-09 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-08 grade level or equivalent in the military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: GS-07: Assigns officers their individual assignments to ensure their understanding and comprehension of responsibilities and duties. Assists in briefing the shift on pertinent information, scheduled or expected events, and criminal information in a "roll call" setting. Assists the change of shifts and ensures the proper posting/ dispatching of officers, Reviews all reports and records prepared by shift personnel to assure reports are written in a timely manner. Discusses with subordinates alternate methods in handling situations more effectively. GS-08: Discusses with personnel their individual assignments to ensure their understanding and comprehension of responsibilities and duties of assignment. Briefs the shift on pertinent information, scheduled or expected events, and criminal information in a "roll call" setting. Conducts the change of shifts and ensures the proper posting/ dispatching of officers, Reviews all reports and records prepared by shift personnel to assure reports are written in a timely manner and the workload provides for comprehensive and technically accurate reports. Notes and records actions taken, obtains additional facts and information and discusses with subordinates alternate methods in handling situation more effectively. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level. Drug-Free Workplace: The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has established a Drug-Free Federal Workplace Policy.
