Summary This position is in the U.S. Department of Transportation, Office of the Secretary (OST), Office of Multimodal Freight Infrastructure and Policy (OST-F). The incumbent serves as a Supervisory Data Scientist, supervising personnel that exploit traditional and emerging methods for program optimization, agency planning, and improved decision making by performing data science, operations research, master data management, and/or data analytics. Responsibilities The Supervisory Data Scientist: Provides direction on planning, researching, and accomplishing project assignments which typically require the formulation and development of business process methods of existing operations. Guides the analysis and evaluation of business requirements and user needs as a component of planning and design. Responsible for the overall management, planning, analysis, review, coordination, and integration of all actions necessary to inject sound data analytics into the decision-making process for the agency or department. Oversees the use of advanced predictive analysis, data visualization, modeling, and data science methods to generate information, recognize patterns, and predict outcomes and their respective probabilities. Builds consensus amongst stakeholders to delineate strategy, objectives, tasks, and goals responsive to business requirements and user needs. Uses a high level of experience and knowledge to prevent, identify, and mitigate potential major problems in executing plans and determining the proper course of action to resolve issues. Adjusts requirements as needed to accommodate necessary changes and delays. The ideal candidate has deep experience working with multimodal freight data and demonstrated leadership with the freight industry. Qualifications To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Education Requirement for the series, (2) provide a copy of transcripts for verification, AND (3) meet the experience qualifications. To qualify for the Grade 15, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-14, it must include: Experience providing the overall management, planning, analysis, review, coordination, and integration of all actions necessary to inject sound data analytics into the decision-making process. Experience overseeing the use of advanced predictive analysis, data visualization, modeling, and data science methods to generate information, recognize patterns, and predict outcomes and their respective probabilities.
