Substitute Teachers play an important role in our schools by stepping in to make sure that quality education, effective classroom management, and school policy and procedures continue in the absence of the assigned classroom teacher.  Qualifications

  Maintain all certifications and licensure as required for job assignment.Demonstrate ability to effectively teach students with special needs.Demonstrate the ability to write Individualized Educational Programs, and progress monitor programs for effectiveness.Conduct evaluations, re-evaluations and write evaluation reports.Demonstrate compassion for students and their families.Demonstrate ability to effectively deescalate student behaviors, and follow taught crisis intervention techniques.Demonstrate the ability to work well with other coworkers.Be familiar with emergency procedures for building operation related to fire, weather, etc.Demonstrate familiarity with all policies for the operation of New Horizon School, and/or other assigned location(s).Demonstrate familiarity with building and student emergency medical procedures.Maintain a minimum of proficiency in all areas of evaluation or equivalent.Demonstrate confidentiality inside and outside of the workplace.Duties and Responsibilities

  Follow work schedule as given.Follow all BVIU and school policies and procedures.Effectively plan and implement lessons for students.Prepare, in advance, substitute plans for absences.Provide crisis intervention when needed.Implement appropriate disciplinary measures to students as agreed upon with the supervisor.Participate in reporting all crisis intervention and disciplinary actions taken as assigned by the supervisor.Direct aides as to classroom responsibilities.Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.Requirements

  Bachelor's Degree (in ANY field). Non-bachelor degree opportunities available, see below for details.Clean criminal background.Three (3) positive professional references.Experience working with school aged children.After Hire (Contingent)

  Valid Substitute Teacher Emergency Permit, Pennsylvania Educator Certificate or Out of State CertificateOR Valid Classroom Monitor (Non-Bachelor's Degree) Emergency Permit.Minimum age of twenty-five (25) years.Has completed at least sixty (60) semester hours or the equivalent of courses at a regionally accredited college or university located in Pennsylvania (official transcripts) OR has at least 3 years of experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and is currently employed as a paraprofessional in a school entity.Valid Classroom Monitor (paraprofessional) Emergency Permit.Three background checks required:Department of Human Services Child Abuse History ClearancePennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records CheckFederal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)
