Job Summary
Under general supervision, is assigned to a City Department to assist in general administrative functions for the purpose of developing a working knowledge of a targeted area in municipal government. Simple tasks and basic exposure to the work environment are learned. The position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, operation, and promotion of all natural area parks and Edwards Aquifer Protection. It performs routine administrative tasks, basic IT, mechanical work, and provides technical assistance. Working conditions will include outdoor and indoor office environment settings. Exercises no supervision.
This position will assist with managing properties and reporting information for biological diversity, rare, threatened, and endangered animal and plant species. (Golden-Cheeked Warbler, Black-Capped Vireo, and the Bracted Twistflower). Will provide support for enabling public access through volunteer programs centered on the biological theme of the parks, such as Wildland Wednesdays and Natural Resource Thursdays.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Days and hours are subject to availability. Schedules may be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Essential Job Functions
Learns about area of career interest by observing and assisting professionals in the assigned department where work will be performed.
May assist in the coordination, administration and/or monitoring of specific programs.
May assist with collecting and organizing data for research.
May assist with performing analyses and prepare data for reports.
May suggest solutions to existing problems and discuss recommendations with administrative personnel.
Assists with special projects as assigned.
Job Requirements
Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
Must be enrolled in a U.S. Department of Education accredited Associate's Degree program, vocational or technical school, with the first year of the program completed.
Preferred Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's Degree program with a nationally accredited institution with major focus on Natural Resource Management, Park Management, Biology, Environmental Studies or a related field.
Valid Class "C" Driver's License.
Knowledge of Texas wildlife and other native plants and geology.
Ability to work in rugged terrain under various weather conditions.
Experience working with community participants and volunteers or various age groups.
Ability to read, write and speak in English and Spanish.

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
