  Student Conduct Coordinator

  Position Summary

  Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates student conduct related strategies, services, and programs to support a positive educational experience for students. Consults with University faculty, staff, community members, and students to interpret and enforce University policies, procedures, services, and programs. Primary functional area is both case management and adjudication of reported student misconduct.

  Basic Function:

  The Student Conduct Coordinator (SCC) serves as the primary contact for faculty, staff and students wishing to pursue disciplinary action against a student, and/or to seek conflict resolution services from OSSA. The SCC coordinates the intake and case management functions for reported misconduct (academic, personal, and organizational), and supports community members’ (faculty, staff, and students) needs regarding student behavior. The role works closely with OSSA team members and collaborates regularly with campus partners, including but not limited to: Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS), Community Liaison, Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), Health Promotion, Department of Police and Public Safety (DPPS), academic colleges, Student Life & Engagement (SLE), Office for Civil Rights and Title IX Education and Compliance (OCR), among others.

  The SCC reports to the Associate Director of OSSA and has primary or secondary responsibility for:

  Works effectively with others as part of a collaborative, healthy, and productive team.

  Coordinates the intake process for conduct and conflict resolution services.

  Assists with case management for conduct.

  Adjudicates conduct cases, with a student development and student success mindset.

  Advises hearing boards.

  Investigates reported misconduct.

  Gathers and synthesizes information from various sources to make informed decisions.

  Develops and implements relevant internal policies and procedures.

  Advises, consults, and represents unit with various constituents, committees, community and University groups regarding services/programs.

  Prepares materials for training, publicity, orientation, and makes presentations.

  Oversees special projects and programs as requested.

  Consults with faculty, staff, and students regarding student behavior.

  Helps prepare, present, and share data.

  Actively participates in relevant professional development (e.g., evidence-based and trauma-informed practice, DEIB, restorative justice, etc.).

  All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

  Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

  Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Masters in Administration or a Behavioral Science field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in administration, program development and personnel development and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Written and verbal fluency in foreign language may be required.

  Ability to listen to understand, and to process perspectives different from one's own.

  Desire and ability to grow in the position.

  Manage multiple processes simultaneously and to work across systems with a common or even competing goals.

  Ability to withhold judgement and to discern critical and relevant information.

  Experience in crisis management.

  ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  May require valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.

  Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.  

  This position requires or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
