Applied Research Associates’ (ARA) Software Enterprise Division (SED) is seeking a talented and driven Systems Engineer to drive solution development for the Intelligence and Defense communities. The Systems Engineer will have a strong passion for generating solutions to the customer’s mission including proof-of-concept development through production application deployments. The team is creating an enterprise architecture, integrating multiple disparate applications into the system, and enabling modern Production processes. The Systems Engineer will have the opportunity to develop solutions for a wide range of technologies and use cases. The Software/Systems engineer will be a member of our on-site team, who are recognized for providing technically superior solutions to complex and challenging problems.
As a valued member of our team, the Software/Systems Engineer will:
Plan, design, implement, and integrate complex technical solutions.
Collaborate horizontally and vertically across multiple teams.
Provide technical guidance and recommendations to leadership on technologies, implementations, and strategies for modern, web-hosted software applications
Solve challenging, real-world problems for customers.
Work mostly on-site and will have extensive interaction with customers, clients, and other contractors.
Software/Systems Engineer Requirements:
U.S. citizenship required.
Due to the work you will perform and interactions with the intelligence community and DoD programs, a TS security clearance with SCI eligibility is required.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience (at least 11 years) will be considered for talented candidates without a degree.
Relocation to Reston, VA.
Minimal travel to support customer and client meetings.
Systems Engineering experience related to distributed web-based solutions.
Experience with at least one modern software development ecosystem, such as Python, and comfortable implementing quick-turnaround, proof-of-concept solutions in that ecosystem.
Ability to analyze and identify customer needs.
Team player with excellent written and oral communication skills and a proactive attitude.
Ability to communicate highly technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Software/Systems Engineer Preferences:
Active TS/SCI security clearance is preferred.
Bachelor or Master’s degree.
DoD 8570 IAT II Status. (e.g., Security+, CSSP, etc.)
Experience diagramming complex systems and workflows.
Experience with large web-based applications. (Django and Angular preferred.)
Experience working in secure/air-gapped environments.
Experience working in cloud and/or hybrid cloud environments.
Familiarity with software design patterns.
Experience working in an Agile development environment.
