Job Summary
Candidate will work at the G.H. Sergievsky Center in a study of memory, aging and Alzheimer's disease. They will conduct coordinate the Brain Donation program and conduct in-person standard interviews of study participants at home and at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Responsibilities
They will approach study participants and their family about the possibility of donating their brain tissue for research after death. The candidate must be able to efficiently communicate with participants via mail, and distribute informational pamphlets, and letters to participants and family members. Applicants must demonstrate willingness and communication skills that would facilitate community presentations about brain donation. This will include liaison with community organizations and organizing, hosting, and attending informational session on brain donation.
The candidate will administer standardized interviews of medical and family history, measures of everyday functioning, and cognitive tests and assist in the recruitment and outreach of community elder residents. In addition, assist Project Coordinator with duties related to the brain donation program. They will assess capacity to consent and obtain informed consent in a minimal risk study of human subjects following Institutional Review Board policies and regulations. Other responsibilities will include and are not limited to data entry, scoring, organizing, filing, data cleaning, photocopying materials, collecting and preparing biological samples and escorting participants to/from CUIMC and their home if necessary. Perform other duties as assigned.
This work will take place under the supervision of the research project coordinator and the study investigators.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4 years experience preferred.Experience working in a research and medical clinical setting.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish rapport with older adults from diverse backgrounds.Excellent Fluency in Spanish and English.Phlebotomy experience and/or certification.Preferred Qualifications (if any)
