  Job Overview

  We are looking for a Staff Assay Integration Scientist who is highly motivated to join the new product development team at TE mondragón to support the design and development of breakthrough microfluidic-based products for the IVD sector. You will serve as a key member, reporting to the head of product development, driving the transfer and optimization of biological assay to novel polymer microfluidic devices from the ground up to early manufacturing stage for our customers.

  In this role you will lead assay integration related activities within projects to develop products for a variety of life science applications. This will include the optimization of assay workflows for microfluidic format, related processes and quality controls required to enable a successful transfer to production. You will also support customer’s assay verification and validation activities as required. For this role it is essential that you are a hands-on person with excellent skills and a personal drive to achieve project goal in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should have the ability to work both independently, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with key internal and external stakeholders, managers, and team members inside and outside the immediate lab environment.

  Essential Duties

  • Lead the integration of assays for clinical diagnostic testing through independent development and iterative experimentation.

  • Interact with customers to define assay requirements and determine the best strategies to transfer assay workflows to microfluidic cartridges working closely with the rest of the engineering team.

  • Support development and validation of QC assay workflows/processes.

  • Develop detailed project schedules for assay related activities and determine resources required to achieve project milestones in time, cost, and quality.

  • Recognize, strategize, and execute steps to address technical deficiencies and enhance processes from the standpoint of assay development.

  • Work closely with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team to ensure smooth transition of bio related processes and associated quality controls to production.

  • Function as a subject-matter expert by providing meaningful technical insight to assist commercial team with customer meetings and sales activities to turn leads into projects.

  • Trains and provides guidance to lower-level employees in specialized procedures, use of equipment, and theoretical basis of customer assays.

  What your background should look like:

  Education/Experience

  • PhD in cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immuno-oncology or related life science disciplines (or equivalent industrial experience).

  • Minimum of 5/10 years of relevant industrial experience and proven track record of successful development and optimization assays for the IVD sector.

  • Relevant experience in cell biology including immunocytochemistry and basic molecular biology techniques.

  • Experience with ISO13485/FDA 21 CFR part 820.

  Preferred experience

  • Experience in biofunctionalization reactions, immobilization of proteins and DNA on

  glass & polymer surfaces.

  • Experience with biosensor, specifically, electrochemical sensor & microfluidics based IVD assay development.

  • Experience with integration of dry down reagent in microfluidic based devices.

  Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience executing experiments, developing assays, optimizing protocols, and interpret experimental results that involve technologies at the convergence of biology and engineering.

  • Must have excellent experimental design, data analysis / visualization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with engineers, management, and other stakeholders across all relevant disciplines.

  • Must be able to efficiently evaluate, prioritize, and adapt multiple tasks within product development projects.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
